Yes, Yes, Yes. Im clearly not new to nico or 240's (see post count lol) but this is my thread on the vert I just bought. The rundown can be seen in the 240sx Gen Chat but I figured that since its a convertible it deserves a thread in the vert forum, so here it is.

Price Payed: $1100Mileage is 157xxxWhy was it so cheap? The automatic transmission is taking an isht on the car. Needless to say I didn't give a f*** due to the desire for a manual transmission. So I am currently sourcing the parts for the 5spd swap and will have it done in the next week or so. I have already located the transmission/x-member and front half of the driveshaft for $220. I am going to be installing a lightweight flywheel and new Exedy OEM clutch/pressure plate/ TO Bearing and Pilot bushing, and will be using a steel braided line for the added ease. Will also be getting a brand new MC and Slave from the local NAPA auto parts. ...I wanna do this right (or else why do it at all?) I will more than likely buy teh clutch pedal assembly either from the guy I am picking up the transmission from, or will order one from one of the ebay auctions... depending on if i can find a return spring at one of the auto parts stores for the right price.

So what else is going on it?Well I've got a silvia front end chillin in my garage that I took from my last car before I sold it, and I've got the last car's full suspension set up that I swapped back to stock before I sold it. Including:TEIN Super Street coiloversTEIN EDFCNISMO PowerbraceGodspeed F/R Anti-Sways, RUCAS, Rear Toe rods, Tension Rods.

And I have an extra (generic) canister style muffler that came with one of my last cars that I never used and I am debating whether or not to have a custom exhaust made with it.

Pics or ban? I'll opt for pics. N-Joy.

The first night (badly in need of a bath)

The next day (after a bath but still in need of some serious detailing)

Commentas?

Werd up. Thats what I keep telling my parents but they're pissed because it doesnt run and the top needs replacing.. Which are major problems in their eyes. I can see why, but within a week or 2 at the most, I'll have her on the road, and $400 later I will have a new top (and using the awesome resource that is NICO I'll replace it myself) [Thanks to the authors of the 2 write-ups in the Stickies thread.]

excellent buy, your parents are foolish but thats what parents do when it comes to the really rad stuff like rare convertible sports cars BTW is the edfc hard to install? I have no idea whats involved with installation/how the system even works other than the blurb i read about electronic motors and gears in the dampers themselves.

Nice find indeed! If the cars in a semi poor shape, you may very well have saved it from getting scrapped! We all know we don't want to see that happen to any more verts. Can't wait to see the turn around on this car! I'm sure with hard work and bloody knuckles you'll have her shining in no time.

Comment for the EDFC: It's gonna be a tight fit getting it up in the rear. I was considering doing this myself, but am worrying that with the top down it may put too much weight/force on the motors. They will literally push up into the canvas that separates the inside and outside of the car. Also, if they are not already installed on the coilover do this before you install the rear struts!! I can't stress that enough. lol Good luck!

My comments are:

Post count doesn't matter, you have only been here a year, it is what you contribute that counts. I have just started posting on NICO a lot since I got my vert and have been in here. Everything on coupes and hatches has been covered; so if you can't find it with a search you shouldn't work on your own car is my thought.

Looks like you have a lot of work in front of you so be prepared to shell out the cash. Good luck!

Exactly who are you referring to Z Style? The OP and his statement about not being new? Me because you referenced my post? Or BigMACKenzie for being here less than a year?

Your post does not make sense if one can not figure out who it is directed at...

Thank you! The EDFC is a cakewalk. The motors just screw on top of the coilover (where you usually turn a knob to click, you remove the knob and then just screw the motor on top... more detailed instructions come with the EDFC kit.) and then you just have to run the wires... its a lot like installing a stereo, but even more simple.

Yeah, I realized that with the EDFC a couple of nights ago when I was thinking about it. I actually might opt to not even bother... I'm missing one of the rear motors at this point. I think it was still inside of my black car somewhere when it got towed... and I forgot to retrieve it before they sent it off to the scrap yard.

Seriously, what was the point of the first half of that post? I've seen a few of your posts, and most of them are filled with a negative connotation... But, to respond to the second part, yeah there will be some "hard work" ahead of me, but i enjoy it, so to me, it'll just be having fun. And thanks for the good luck wish!

Sorry, sorry.

I was going off this in your first post in the thread:

But then I ranted a little bit about the General 240sx subforum. I do post negative stuff because I want to give my real opinion. It may not matter to most, yet it should be given if people ask for it. My money comment wasn't supposed to be negative. I should of said, "Spend the cash and keep it clean."

I got a little D'ed the night before and got punched in the face a couple times by my teammate, Dexter can vouch for it, so I might of been a little out of it during the post.

Now for a positive comment:

I rodeoed Dexter's vert around the parking lot tonight. It is a lot easier than a car with a roof, but was hard to steer and control the throttle with no steering wheel spacer.

Cool, no hard feelings what so ever... I felt a twinge of an attack but i realize I was just overanalyzing.

As for the rodeo.. I never thought about how much easier it would be without the roof.

I've rodeo'd around when hangin out with friends at a parking garage... but just driving around at a low speed... never done a rodeo drift. I want to so bad though.

Well... mini update, I'll be pickin up a donor car from a guy a couple cities over... was in a frontend crash... (the tree won.) but the SOHC motor and transmission are still in working order... just eff'd up the radiator real bad. So anyway, I'm gonna be getting this coupe for $50. (No typo, just one zero) and will be pulling the engine and transmission... and will have access to an ishtload of parts. So if anyone needs something, let me know before I junk the rest of it. (Dad's giving me a time limit on how long I can keep the donor car so I only have like a week to pull off extra parts. If you want something let me know so I can get it before its too late!)

Oh and I got the Silvia front end installed tonight. Pics tomorrow, I promise. Its sleepy time.

$50??? You are my new hero!! my best friend did the same thing to a guy whose bmw had the frame and radiator mutilated by some drunk driver but even he paid $200 for the rolling shell (89') sorry for being an east coast nerd btw but rodeo?

Little bit of an update:

I got the the donor car (The P-O-S-13) to my house monday... It was hot as hell all day yesterday and today. We reached 110*F... and Ive been outside all day both days. <---Those arent tears by the way. Thats sweat.

So... Point? Yeah, right. The point...

Got the transmission out. Driveshaft. Clutch pedal, Clutch MC and Slave, X-member... but the driveshaft and x-member are F'd up... so Im pickin up a driveshaft tomorrow from some dude in concord for $30.. and he MIGHT have the x-member too. if not, I'll be sourcing one of those.... im keeping my fingers crossed.

So tomorrow (well... today. jesus, its 1:15?) im having the POS13 towed outta here, to some scrapyard or some isht.

but then I gotta order a clutch kit (w/lightweight flywheel) and steel braided line, and a short shifter off of ebay (may as well do it right the first time!) So Im gonna have to wait for the parts to come in before I can get knee-deep in tearing apart the vert. I have next mon and tues off too, so Im praying i can get the clutch kit in the mail by then. the short shifter and steel line can come a little later, since they an be installed AFTER i get the transmission bolted up... but i dont wanna have the vert sitting in the garage for a week, pissin off my parents.

anyway, im goin to sleep. i got a lot of **** to do tomorrow, and then I gotta work too. ****.

mini update:

so I got all the parts all together, just got the short shifter and stainless braided line in the mail today (they're both really nice, good quality, i'm extremely happy.) and this morning I got started taking the vert apart. I got the transmission drained, the driveshaft is out, the shifter assembly is all disconnected and removed, and I have most of the bell housing bolts off..

problem is that I am doing this with the engine still in the chassis, so its a major ***** to get the top bolts... i don't know how I did it the first time when i replaced my clutch in my coupe... but damnit its a pain in the ***. Hopefully I will be able to get it all off tomorrow night after work, (i work tonight and tomorrow morning) so that I will have all of mon and tues (got both days off) to reassemble this thing and get it running, and then get my suspension installed too. I want this so bad i can taste it... wait, no, thats just ATF.

Oh yeah... I also got the brake pedal all cut up too. Personally, i think its WAY easier than swapping **** out... not to mention cheaper... and keeps the brake pedal closer to the gas (heel-toers?) so yeah.

Now i just need to find someone with an angle drill i can borrow, and a torque wrench.

and get this **** done. anyway Imma go shower and change so i when i get to work at 5, i am not all nasty and ****.

Yeah, for real. 600 is one hell of a deal. Im a bit jealous. lol.

well the 5spd swap cost me a total of 650... so that on top of the 1100 for the car and 95 for towing it comes out to only 1845, which is only $45 more than I sold my stockass coupe for... so basically $45 to get 1 out of 8,xxx droptops made? And its Manual? Hell yeah.

Not to mention that 650 is INCLUDING a brand new clutch kit and lightweight flywheel, stainless braided line and short shifter....

Sounds like a good deal to me.

OH, and I managed to get my morning shift covered for tomorrow so I think if I really get on it tomorrow, I can probably get the whole swap finished tomorrow, and have monday to get my suspension, stereo, and front lip/skirts installed (after i paint them white again) and then maybe a quick cleaning and detailing...

And then that leaves tues to enjoy the ride (and take pics!)

and itll be all finished by weds for my next workday.

needless to say, I love when things work out.

I just want it to be tomorrow morning already! I think I might go to sleep around 10:30 so im well rested and to pass the time a bit quicker (although itll probably be a restless night... too excited for tomorrow.)

So i finished the 5spd swap. Damn it feels good to drive a 5spd vert.

Also finished swapping the suspension. Damn it feels even better to drive a Slammed 5spd vert.

So now Im getting ready to put the finishing touches on the car: the body..

Ive got a monkey magic lip and a pair of some sideskirts Ive had hangin out in the back yard... so here's a few pics of them just test fitted on the car. Looks good, I love it. Here's my dilemma:Im trying to decide whether to paint them white, or to leave them black and paint the car a two-tone style with everything under the bodyline black (rear bumper, doors...) keep in mind that the hood is staying black, I am painting the pillars black, and I am painting the trunk lid black... so the whole top of the car will be black.

Help me out! I'm torn... I wanna hear some opinions... because I can't decide a definite either way. I like it both ways... And post your reasoning too so I can use that to help base my final decision.

PICS!

looks good buddy. i think i would go all white as opposed to the two tone split on the top and bottom. as for the pedal pad, you can pick up a replacement at napa or any parts store in the dorman brand. btw, the boosters are the same for manual and auto, i checked. your vert is looking good man.

yeah, i think I decided to go that route.

Ive been thinking about it more throughout the day and I ended up swaying back to the all white with just the top half black.Thats more my style anyway.. the black bottom is a bit too much, too attention whoring... and a little ghetto looking to boot.

Thats what happens when you listen to the opinion of a girl you're into...

But nope. Gotta stick with whats real to me... and I think Im gonna pick up the paint and other supplies over the weekend and I have mon tues and weds off so I will have it all done soon. Pics and a new sig will follow

Eventually the black hood will be replaced with a CF hood but I don't think I would ever spring for the CF trunk... just too much extra money.... and a little too much CF for my tastes too.

I actually do have access to a couple of really nice digital cameras, but I dont even bother using them unless Im taking pictures with the intent to take pictures... if you know what i mean. I just snapped these with my sidekick real fast to throw up on the thread, if I go out for a real photoshoot style, I bring the good cameras.
