Thanks for the comments. The tires are 265/70/16, and they are the absolute max size for the stock suspension, since I can't even get my pinky finger in between the coil and the tire.

koukiS14-I still haven't gotten to use them off road yet since there are no trails in my area. Although there is a really nice mud/dirt hill near my house i've been to a few times with the old crappy tires.

man... same here. . SUCKS!!! I'm envious of dudes like fueler, who can go beat up on Mexico and Moab and cool places. I have some off-road parks. .

but something I've recently found are state-owned trails . . so I'll be checking into those. For some reason, if I got stuck on a state-owned trail, I wouldn't really feel that bad about it.

Not absolute max.... I had some 265/75/16 BFG all terrains on my stock suspension.... But i had to do a lot of trimming, including removal of front mud flaps and hollowing out the rear fender flares....

But it wasn't comfortable on them.... The largest comfortable size I would go is 265/70/16 like you have!

haha never been to Moab, but man i live in the middle of the city, the nearest legal off-road trail is over an hour from me, thats on the US side, or I could drive 30 minutes south and hit up tijuana..... pretty much everything there is off-roading, even some of the the regular city streets require a high clearance 4x4 vehicle lol.

Not at all!

Pros: higher ground clearance, better off roading, less getting stuck, lower engine RPM on freeway Cons: slower acceleration, slower braking, no more 90 mph curves As far as the gearing goes, you only have two easy choices and those are 4.363 and 4.636. There are the two sets of gearing that came in 96-04 R50s. The 4.636 is definitely the one you would want for larger tires. If you want to check which one your Pathfinder / QX4 is equipped with, go look in your engine bay at the metal plate with VIN stamp and all that info.... there should be a 4 digit code that says HG46 or HG43.... if you want to upsize your tires and maintain good acceleration characteristics, you should hope to see HG46!

Hey fellow Canadian. Is this the year the Leafs win the cup? NOT.Anyway, I'm surprised the 265's fit. I installed 255/70/16's on mine and there is barely any room at the coil.As for tire brand, I'm wondering if anybody can suggest a better tire than I have right now for wet weather driving. I'll be due for new rubber soon, so any suggestion is welcome. My current Wrangler RT/S are brutal on wet roads. They ride nice and smooth and quiet on the highway, but they break loose very easily in the rain. It scares me sometimes. I run it in AWD when it rains.Thanks.
