Hey everyone! I just picked this car up recently and it's been sitting in my garage. I had a chance to clean it up yesterday and snap some pictures and I thought I'd post it up to share

The car is a Dec. 84' DR30 Skyline RS-X Turbo. It has 78,000kms (48k miles) and it pretty much completely stock except for the wheels. It's the red/black two tone with the matching red/black interior.

the hot plate taillights look really 80s.

A clean set of some vintage Pioneer TS-X8 speaker boxes
Image
It's the last model of the DR30 before the change to the R31, so it came with the stock intercooler, which you can see the opening for on the right lower bumper.
Image
There is a small Skyline logo in the headlights to match the red badge.
Image
haaah, I guess all the cars need to be radiation checked before leaving Japan now.

Did I say stock? It does have sweet cupholders.

The passenger-side door panel has a second door handle for opening the door from the back seat.

Hotness. Reminds me a lot of the 80s 810/Maxima. The dash is terrible but the rest of the interior is surprisingly okay.

Top chain tensioner is slack until it builds pressure; the noise is horrendous. You can fit a modified Mazda spring-loaded tensioner to eliminate the problem.

Beautiful stock piece. Treat it well, please don't paint it flat black, sticker bomb or drift it around city street corners like a punk. Congrats on a lovely car!

I love the interior on that thing! How do the ergonomics compare to modern vehicles?

It kind of reminds me of the S12 SE interior. I always found that to be quite comfortable.

Beautiful car! I love it, the older Pioneer stuff was pretty solid too. Looks like a great keeper, take good care of her so future generations can gawk at her too! :dblthumb:

The engine bay looks the same as any other 27 year old engine bay with an FJ in it, nothing special. I'm having the intake manifold and valve cover repoweder coated since most of the stock red has flaked off from age. Once I get it all back on I'll take a picture.

No, I'm not going to ghetto up the car and paint it primer and fill it with stickers, I'm not a young punk kid. As far as what I'll do with the car, I'm going to put some coilovers on it, a Nardi wheel, and probably a Bride Brix II I have sitting in my garage. I also have an older AVC-R sitting in my garage so I may add that and some aux defi gauges. I'll leave the exterior untouched for the most part. If I do add something, it would be the Jenesis front lip and the Jenesis rear lip spoiler.

The engine does have a slight tick to it but I figured it was just lifter tick. Tell me more about this Mazda tensioner trick to quiet it up.

That "tick" might not be a problem. The FJ has a full solid valvetrain and tends to sound like a dry chainsaw idling.

If your intention is to keep the car period correct I know a guy who might be able to help. ;)
