Well, as i posted earlier, its now official! I am a proud owner of a white 2000 Infinity Qx4! Its loaded! I bought it for $6,500 with 130K from my sister, not too bad especially since all the miles are highway miles! I took some pics, but ill take more once i get my audio equipment and alarm all installed! I have a in Jensen touchscreen player that has DVD\MP3\TV etc. that will go in soon as well as a python alarm with remote start! I know nothing at all about these trucks, i used to have a merc Coug.. (big mistake) but its nice having a car that will start right up with no problems! These engines seem fairly easy to work on, but i am no mechanic! Anyways... just wanted to say Hi, and i hope to do my best to contribute to the group!

Nice ride!! You will love it!

First easy mod you can do is "independent fog light" control, so you can use the fogs without the headlights. The QX4 is set up only turn on the fogs while the headlights are on, via a relay, in order to pass inspection in states like VA where they actually check that stuff. I changed out the relay because there is no such rule in CA and I want to be different. It is a $3 part and needs some quick wire soldering. Welcome to NICO

That's a beautiful thang!! Welcome to the club!!I came very close to buying a 97 in that color.

You've got a 99.5 (small differences such as black tint as opposed to mirror, push-button gas door release / glass pop, no 4wd shifter... I dig the little storage cubby I have in place of it, you also have battery saver so if you leave your lights on and get out, it shuts off automatically, newer steering wheel. . there are other little upgrades as well)

I did the fog mod... wanted that for years on my 240sx, but never knew how to do it. . nobody on that forum had a clue. I'm positive that putting the relay in my 240sx would have made it work.. so easy.. but wire it how Fueler has, so you don't kill your battery like I did by leaving them on

Enjoy!

thanks all for the compliments! I love driving this thing, its awesome and if you dont go too heavy on the gas, you dont get too bad gas millage if you drive it nice! That fog light mod is definitly something i would like to do. Is there a "FAQ" or a "HOW TO" on that mod? I think i am going to take the Qx4 to get my fluids sniffed and see what ones will need replacing, because at 132K you really have no clue what ones are bad and good. That and i want to pro-long the life of my baby!

Also, I noticed that you still have the bulky original garage door opener. You should program your "homelink" transmitter in your sunvisor to do that, it makes a cleaner interior in my opinion. Then you can save the remote and keep it in your house for guests or for ease. As far as the fog light procedure, KoukiS14 posted them somewhat recently, i'd have to look through the pathfinder forum......

As far as the maintenance, since the QX4 was female owned, I doubt it has had anything done besides oil changes. I would ask your sister what she's done and when. Timing belt interval on our engine is 110,000 miles so you're probably there right now. It is around a $500 job with everything, including water pump, all belts, all hoses, thermostat, tensioners, and probably camshaft seals. I highly doubt your sister has done that... The timing belt usually lasts MUCH longer than the recommended interval but it is good insurance. I would also change: Front and rear differential fluids transfer case fluid (use ATF in this)

coolant

spark plugs (the two tools for plugs 1-5 and then #6 is under your rear seat) in-cabin air filter (behind glove box, this one will be nasty at 130k miles, should be $30 at a nissan dealership, $60 at Infiniti, but they are the same damn part #, I can get the part # for you on Monday if you like )

Let us know if you need anything There is a lot of info here - FAQ's http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthr...21482 and here - Nissan part #'s and maintenance schedule http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthr...10947

Independent fog light instructions:http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthr...10524A ... e/727953/6

But take fueler's advice, and hook it up to the AC Relay -- this is only hot when the ignition is on. I killed my battery by leaving them on once :o The chime will not sound if you leave them on, and the 99.5+ "battery saver" does not work for the fogs.

This'll all make more sense after you've read through that thread.

Well i picked up my two relays today and hopefully ill install them sometime tomorrow! I am selling off all my old cougar stuff like exhausts, headers, intakes, etc.. but i hope to have it done by tomorrow. I am going to wait a bit on my timming belt because i dont have too much extra cash till i sell all my old ****, but i think that i will check out my cabin filter. If its really nasty ill take some pics! But i did find two Monroe Sensa-trac struts in her garage that she gave me for the truck for free! The suspension feels fine, but hell, why not upgrade!

I think you'll love it. Another thing, if it hasn't been done in awhile, change the oil and air filter -- fuel filter, too. I put a lot of miles on my qx fast, and I realize I didn't change it for well over 8k miles. . haha. . the oil looked okay, and I hadn't burnt any it seems...but after changing my oil and air filter, my MPG VASTLY improved. I was getting 12 in town, now I'm closer to 15 (I think) -- I'll find out for sure next time I fill 'er up.

I know this is no secret, but I've been driving a 240sx for 8 years. . never really mattered much with that.

I'm hoping to finish my relay stuff today. . I'm gonna mod my OEM relays this time tho (running switch power so they're off with ignition), and give my RS away. It works fine, but I found OEM relays for 17 a pop, I don't find that too terrible -- I'll buy those and hang on to 'em. We have no emissions checks here, so no care about how my lights work.

You got the info for how to make your second power port always hot, right? I think that'd be useful for cellphones and stuff.

Good reference thread guys. How about that trick to make the rear power plug always hot. My kids hate it when I stop for gas and their Cd player shuts off.

I followed the directions -- okay actually I stopped at the first part of 'em.I noticed that I don't have the relay that I can modify to make my rear power plug hot.

Wish I could make all three of 'em hot though. I don't really want to run new wires. I guess 99.5 and up R50 differs in that way as well. . so many little mundane changes between 98 and 99.5
