As a most of you know a buggered the motor in my truck in March last year. Any way due to economy etc I wasn't able to fix it so stripped it out and sold off the bits i didn't want.

So now I've started again and the basic plan is

D21 Pathfinder cut down to extra cab. (was a 3 door one)Patrol axles and drive train so basically the same as my old truck.Twin turbo VH45, PWR w2a IC etc etc. Forged pistons 8.5:1 cr, bigger injectors, standalone ecu and CDI (from old truck)18" coilovers all round.Current plan will have it wieghing around 1500 to 1600 kgs and have about 600hp. So about 20% lighter and 10% more HP. It will also be as low as it possibly can. The diffs basically hit the chassis on full compression and this allows huge travel with a really low (realativly) ride height. The cage etc is being built to motorsport NZ spec as well so I can do some hill climbs as well as off road racing and winch challenges.

The chassis has been completely stripped of all mounts etc. The rollcage will be welded to body and the body solid mounted to the chassis to provide the strength needed.

So we've taken a few lessons from the old truck and from some others racing and going about 10 steps further. Going as light as possible and also keeping things simple.

The plan is to have it going late this year and have it tested ready for the Taupo 1000 in 2011.

Definately subscribed, love the idea. By the way, can you post a link for those different VH bearings?

Here's link to the ROTM write up and one to my photobucket page.http://www.nicoclub.com/ROTM/rotmfeb09. ... al...rt=20

Also the guy that bought it is doing a build write up on Pirate in the Nissan section.

As for the bearings. That was info from a mate that is an engine builder so I have no idea where there come from but he was adamant that they were readily available and were available with 270* oiling as well.

Sorry to clutter your thread, but could you possibly ask him where I can buy them?

Thank you!

How did the VH fit in the D21 engine bay. I am really thinking about putting one in my 93.

From a pure dimensional point of view, it will fit quite well as long as you fit pusher fans in front of the radiator. I've cut the firewall out and have slide the motor about 6" through th firewall to get better weight balance. The biggest PITA is the steering as the column literally comes throught the firewall where the head is. I've shifted the column over to clear it but it does take a bit of work.I'm not sure about hieght as I ripped all the IFS out and have set the motor relative to the axle at full compression. Like this I have about 3" above the inlet manifold to the bonnet and that is with a 1.5" body lift.

Basically I'm pretty confident you could fit a VH in without body mods (bat the steering column).

I've lowered the motor and are about to start the manifolds. After the weekend I'm thinking pretty hard about staying with the same single turbo as I ran before. I have so much room behind the motor I might shift the crossover to there and run the turbo on the LH side. It means I don't have to fight with exhuast running past the front driveshaft (which is RHS).

im starting something like this. iv got a 93 hardbody. doing body work on it now but by end of summer i hope to have the engine in it with the na300zx transmission behind it. run a 8.8 ford rear out of explorer (better and cheap diff options with better gears)

maby supercharge it later. thinking the truck will be fast enough all motor with nico tune, but we will see.

im watching your build.

The na 300zx auto isn't strong enough, you want the 300zxTT, Q45 or Patrol auto as they are bigger and stronger but will bolt to the same bellhouse. ie your want a RE4REO3A not the RE4REO1A which is the Pathfinder, Hardbody and na 300zx auto. The important number is the 3 and the 1. 3 means medium duty and the 1 means light duty.

The auto I'm using is a patrol auto with upgraded Q45 internals and a manual valve body. In that form it is handling 375rwhp with 35" crossply mud tyres and has never got hot. That includes redline shifting at full throttle!

im gonna use the stock manual 5 speed in my pathy with the 300zx manual bellhousing.
