After waiting for what seemed like forever, I have finally completed the current round of upgrades for this setup. Over the course of today, I installed my Full-Race manifold, T04R, TiAL 44mm wastegate, TiAL 50mm BOV, and my 3" intercooler piping. Install went well, other than it sucked. I was stuck with a POS welder that quit on me at one point. I kinda just did the best I could for welding on the intake piping, and then after I finished it all, I went over the welds with a nice coat of JB weld. Turned out pretty good IMO.

Impressions, it is a LOT faster in boost. I can definitely notice the loss in response, but damn it was worth the extra power.. Full boost is at 4500rpm just as I expected. The 44mm seems a lot quieter, but IDK, I have only made full boost once in third gear. My only problem thus far is an annoying exhaust leak.. I cannot find it as of now, but that could have a lot to do with my sleep habits as of the past few days.. I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about installing this ****.. All I really have to do now to complete this phase of upgrades is finish out my fuel maps on the AEM and then start putting timing back in. This is still on stock internals as well..

Damn dude I think you need to come over to my house and use my mig welder. Lol, your setup looks sick. Are you still on that same motor that you were making 419hp.

Also what kind of e fans are you using on your setup.

To bad that turbo is so small and that manifold looks like crap...LOL. Seriously though, 4500 is actually quite good for that size turbo. The TO4 I was running was closer to 5K before she reached full boost. Whats the AR on the hotside? Mine was .81...a tad to big but I already had the turbo from another project.

It also speaks loads for the Full Race manifold, not that they need the recognition. You'll have to go for 525 or so just to get the max whp on stock internals record man. You have more then enough supporting mods now. Especially since I've seen that turbo make over 600WHP on a 302...she's barely breathing into the KA.

Looks great Cory...glad to see you back in the game. Or atleast staying "IN" the game. My wife gets induced tomarrow...so I'll live vicariously through you for awhile

PS, I added one pic to your post, just for the lazy people who don't click on the links you provided.

Don't worry, my car has been running this whole time.

My hotside is a .70ar. This turbo is rated at 75lb/min, so 700whp is about where I would start to consider another turbo. I can't even hear the turbo at 14psi, so yea, its low boost..hehe

Yes, this is still the original engine that came in my car nearly four years ago.

Right now, I'm looking for a conservative 400whp on pump gas at 14psi.

I believe he already is running a stand alone.

He did mention in his post about finishing his fuel maps and adding timing back on the AEM.

I swap in the AEM and tune parts of it, then if I have to drive somewhere, I run the Enthalpy.

This is a journal bearing turbo.

o man. seems that you finally got the turbo u were talking about a WHILE back. sweet jesus your gonna need stickier tires. no more enthalpy for u huh? the aem ems is a great piece of technology. i'm sure your gonna have fun once everything is tuned. did you upgrade the size of your injectors? also since you have the aem, plan on going with the map sensor? need to see a dyno sheet soon or vid..................

Actually I am still using the Enthalpy tune. Its reliable, so I usually run it on long drives. I am still using my 740cc injectors. I use a MAP sensor when I run the AEM.

I am using an ACT HDSS clutch kit. It consists of a Heavy Duty pressure plate and an organic street disk.

.....

The T04R cost me $1169. My old turbo is currently sitting in a box, claimed by a friend of mine when he returns from deployment.

I was asking about the clutch because I'm afraid I think I toasted mine... I thought that's what you had. I pretty much have the same setup, except I got the Extreme Pressure Plate. I still have the 'street' disc though. I think the PP might have eaten the disc. I dunno. I was coming home from the track the other night and it was slipping like hell. I gotta take it apart and see what's up. Updates in another thread...[/endthreadjack]

That's what I'm thinking. I called up the company I got the clutch from, and they want pictures of the PP and Disc. Then they will decide whether or not to let me go through with the warranty. Which I think is kinda BS, but W/E.It also requires me to take it apart, which is really not number one on my 'To-Do' list.. lol

Its not really BS. They shouldn't have to replace the disk if you glazed it. They have no control over how you used the clutch. You break, you buy.

He's aiming for 400whp at 14psi compared to his old setup of 420whp at ~22psi. Bigger turbo means more power per pound of boost.

Hmm.. running about 250 hp/tq shouldn't 'glaze' a 426 lb/tq pressure plate... lol

Torque capacity is what the clutch will hold. So torque production, as long as it is below what the clutch will physically hold, should be fine.

Slipping is what will produce glazing. Basically, an organic disk, even with kevlar, when heated to a very high temperature by slipping, will release a resin. The resin cures after cooling and reduces the coefficient of friction of your clutch disk's surface. You can do this with a briggs and stratton engine if you slip your clutch too much. Drag racing is one place to make this happen, esp while launching. ****, my disk is glazed, but suprisingly it holds.. I glazed my bad enough that it wouldn't hold power until after it cooled down one night..

Sometimes you just have to do something truly abusive to the clutch to break the glaze.

Not on that setup. The clutch disk is not abrasive enough. In the same manner as brakes, you have to have a pad(clutch disk) with a high coefficient of friction in order to take the glazed layer off.

My turbine housing is HPC coated.
