I figured I'd join the club and paint up my manifold cover. I decided I'm going to "beautify" my engine compartment with blue to offset all of the black on my car. I figured I'd make the "pipes" look real while I was at it. Aside from where I bumped it with my finger (can't even see it in the pic) when I was removing the masking tape, it came out perfect. It's still waiting on a clear coat and the re-installation of the emblem (tomorrow). What do you guys think?

I'll post some pics of it installed under the hood tomorrow after I finish the clear coat and re-install it.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I used a light coat of Krylon Fusion (gloss black) for a primer. Then I did the "pipes" with a few coats of Rustoleum Metallic (Aluminum). Finally, I used Duplicolor Blue 1200 degree engine paint. It took a long time to mask off the pipes after painting them silver. I took my time and used multiple pieces of tape and a carpenter's knife to trim it up perfectly.

Today I'll be putting on a clear coat... I think I'll use a wheel clear (Duplicolor High Performance Wheel Coating) because I hear it holds up better.

As you wish...

I spruced up the rest of the engine compartment with some blue loom tubing. The tubing is actually a little darker in person, for some reason it looks really light in the photos.

It's such a beautiful day and this is the cleanest my V has been in forever, so I snapped away.

Here's a before shot:

Nice paint job ^_^. A bit different from the usual reds and yellows... much better than pure black ^^;

Thanks again for the compliments guys. The blue tubing is made by Spectre. I bought it at Kragen Auto Parts for $5 a package. I bought two packages; one was 1/2" x 4', the other was 1/4" x 8'.

I think I might go back and pick up 1 last pack of 3/8" x 6', because there are a few more things I'd like to cover up that are too small for the 1/2" and too big for the 1/4". That stuff is sold at almost any auto parts store and it comes in all sorts of colors (yellow, blue, silver, white, red, black, etc).

Actually, I painted them silver before I painted the rest of the cover blue, so I don't know. I wanted exactly the look I got, but if someone else maybe wanted to consider blue but keeping the "pipes" blac, maybe bulld0g could step in with a photochop?

I didn't... I just used Krylon Fusion (designed specifically for plastic) as a base coat before I sprayed the rest. The only reason I didn't use Krylon Fusion for the whole job was because the blue they offered wasn't quite the color I wanted, and they didn't offer any sort of metallic silver for the "pipes."

BTW, after seeing the photochop, I'm glad I did them silver instead of leaving them black... just looks kinda weird with the lighter color blue.
