I just took delivery of a 2007 M45 sport with tech package, it had 100 miles on it and was a showroom piece before I bought it. I was driving it home and there was this aweful smell like burning plastic coming through the vents, I thought I was going to be sick! My 6 year old son, also complained of a sore throat and a sick stomach. and this was just a 10 min. ride. since then, everyone who has sat in this car has complained of a sick stomach and a sore throat. I drove it about 150 miles so far and when I get into the cabin, my stomach hurts and my throat hurts and I feel horrible. I have tried closing the vents and only putting it on recirc air con and still it has not helped. I complained to the dealer and the dealer said that there is a undercarriage sealer that was sprayed in Japan before shipping to the US to resist corrosion. And that I would have to live with is for another 300 miles! I have had numerous new cars from Japan and none have smelled this bad. I feel that this is truly toxic and wonder if anyone can help me out.

To me, it seems like the dealer is giving you a pretty poor excuse - there should be no reason for such an odor!

I would take it back to them and ask for a loaner and let the Service Manager drive the car for the first 300 miles and see how he feels about it then!

If this car set outside in high Humidity for a protracted time without being opened up it could have mildew in the ventilation system. Very difficult to get rid of and not good vfor your health as well. Just a thought.

What's top speed on these things? 150mph?

Drive it for two hours!

Hello,Welcome. Sorry that your initial experience has been toxic. While many have had issues with "new car smell", not many have observed physical manifestations to it. Being in suburban Atlanta, you do have other dealerships to choose from. If the issue continues, perhaps a tow to another dealer. I would guess roadside assistance would cover it. Maybe leave the car idling with the a/c at full bore for a spell?Good Luck,M.L

Same advice as your identical duplicate post in Infintii General

Call Infiniti Customer Service and let them know what your service manager said and you can't use the car in it's present condition. A demand letter insisting upon a complete refund plus attorney's fees and expenses from your attorney will get things up to warp speed instantaneously.

well, I just left my car at the service dept. this afternoon, they assure me that they will have the smell out, whatever it is. I told them that the service manager should drive it home and see what he feels like and actually, the guy who was helping me told me that it did have a sort of a wierd smell unlike any other m's he has smelled and that he would not get in it, because he doesn't want to get sick! Anyways, I will keep you all informed. If this doesn't resolve, i will take your advice and call Infiniti.

Take it to the dyno and rev the daylights out of it. That should burn it off.

Buy the gas mask first

well, I got the car back and the smell is slightly better and the service manager did take it home, but He found everything normal. I'm not having the stomach and throat pain as much, I think that the undercarriage smell is finally burning off. It was funny, I had bought my dad a new nissan Maxima SE just a few years ago, and he just sat in my car just yesterday and he said that it was the exact same smell he had on his new maxima until he drove it about a month and a half. He said that he was all dizzy everytime he drove his maxima! I asked him why he didn't tell me that he had this problem and he said that he just thought it was the leather smell! Apparently, his maxima was made in Japan and had the same undercarriage treatment found in my Infiniti! GO FIGURE!

I had the same problem with my 2007 M45 Sport that I got in January for the first few weeks, but the burning smell eventually went away. Don't think too much about it or you'll drive yourself crazy
