I've been a member on Nico for a while now but my focus up to this point has been on classic Skylines. I've owned quite a few now, two of which I swapped RB26s into. Anyhow, they have all gone to new owners as I have decided to build a more track worthy (and expendable) car. A 510. But not just any 510. Remarkably, this is the very 510 I built 8 years ago and then sold. A buddy of mine bought it from the guy I sold it to but did nothing with it for 2 years. After a couple of conversations the car is now back in my garage. My plan from the start was to make a fairly competitive track car. Now, I'm not going for any particular class as the car would not be legal for a number of reasons. So, with that in mind, I had to choose a motor. The common swap is of course the SR. But after a lot of research I chose the road less traveled. The CA. After my experience with the RB, I can't help but fall for the motor. The similiarities are too great. And for road racing purposes I think the CA's smaller size, lower weight, and superior valve train will really pay off.
To get the motor in the car, I chose the full kit from Datsport. The quality is superb as is the communication. It got here from Australia in just 3 days. The CA will remain stock for the moment. I plan to document the build of the drivetrain as it goes. I want to get a baseline with a bone stock motor and electronics. I already have an E-manage, 460cc injectors, and Z32 mass sensor for later. I will need to get my hands on an S15 or disco potato to join them. After that, a set of Tomei cams and head gasket with ARP studs. This is roughly the order I plan to follow. An honest 300hp is what I'm looking for. That kind of power in a 510 will be more than enough to keep up with the Vipers and Vettes at the track. Anyhow, I've rambled a bit. Here are the pics:
