My new Alpine headunit turns on but no sound/audio....

Yesterday I bought an Alpine CDA-9835 brand new for $450 from a private party. Anyways My friend and I installed it in my 92 240 today but no sound is coming out of my speakers. The headunit turns on and everything but no audio. The speaker harness is on correctly also. The headunit didn't really look brand new so I'm thinking it's used. But I need your help guys, did the guy rip me off or is it my wiring?

I called the guy today and he said he will go to the store with me where he bought it. I just want to see your guys opinion.

Do you know if you have those super cool "amplified" speakers? What HU were you using before installing the Alpine?

If so, that may be why it's not working??

See if you can find a simple speaker, that you know works and connect it directly to the speaker leads coming out of the back of the HU/wiring harness.

I'd have to say $450 for any used HU is a bit steep, but I don't know this model at all.

It's cool man...I got it to work. Now I'm just having problems fitting it in my bracket and dash. The deck is kind of fatter than my old one. I don't know how to remove the cage for my new alpine.
