Well, after looking around for a while, I found a deal on a 74 620 pickup this past Sunday.  I managed to buy at $300 which was a great price compared to other models in the area that were in worse condition.

Little bit of history, the truck's original owner was Alan Jackson, the country singer.  He delt in the car trade a while ago and the first buyer (who I spoke with), knew Alan really well and ended up trading a ford double cab for the truck back in 74 because of the gas crunch.  From there it was sold twice more, but to people living within a mile of each other (all good friends or relatives).

Anyway, it was a daily driver until about three months ago when the last owner bought a new jeep to drive.  It was about to sit for a while until my girlfriend's dad asked her if she would sell it.

So, long story short, I end up with the truck which runs like a top and has very little overall rust.  There are a few small holes in the floor pans and the front left has been hit but nothing major.  I just need to pick up a few body panels to get the restore on it's way.  Here are a few pics:

The interior is probably one of the nicest unrestored interiors I saw while shopping around for these.  It had dealer installed air (hanging down), which blows fine but the compressor pump is not connected so I'm not sure if it needs a recharge or works completely.

The egine is good, but I need a gasket kit for the darn thing as it's leaking oil from every seam.  The engine was replaced once and has 66k miles on it.  They reset the Odometer with the new engine.  Also, the carb is running super rich and just dumping fuel.  I ended up using 1/4 tank just to make the 30 mile drive home.  I'll be looking into webers on the rebuild.

So far nothing amazing but a good platform to begin on.  I don't plan on doing a show restore, but I'd like to build it back into a reliable truck that I don't have to worry about breakdowns or rust problems with so I'll be taking it down to the frame and starting from there.

Any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I hate the step bumpers that they had here in the states.  I think these look so much better.  Plus a rare find too.

I don't know how I missed this thread...
nice pics!
looks like a good deal...
let us know if the bumperettes come with the mounting brackets...
I've wanted to ask the guy on ebay but haven't yet...
you might have to have some made...
you can check out the 620.com site for manuals and good tech info that's not made it here yet...
Alan Jackson's old rig...find any old registrations in there with his name on them?
that would be cool!

Thanks.

Alan actually only owned the car for three days as part of his inventory so I don't have any paperwork with his name on it :(

Maybe I can have him sign it once it's all done though :D

I'll let you know about the mounting brackets as well.  I was hoping they'd fit on the stock mounting points for the step bumper but I guess we'll have to see.

71-521, I got a pair of bumperettes from Lance, and the brackets were different from the ones on my 71 521. I tried them on my Pick-up, and they positioned the bumperettes too high to fit with the larger 521 taillights. I'm finally going to get some time to make drawings with dimensions of the brackets from my truck (521) and the other brackets, (possibly 520, with small taillights). After I make my drawings, I'm going to offer the other brackets on this site, to anyone who might need a set for mounting some bumperettes. John
