I finally found a 5 speed, its a 1989 hatchback, in a less than stunning grey color. 215.6k miles on the original never rebuilt KA24E, and it still runs strong. Its so much fun to drive, and im only paying $1750, and he's running inspections emissions and an oil change for me. (he works at a tune up/alignment shop) The question is, what mods...im thinking of some Kazera 16X7s with some Kumho rubber, for about 800 shipped. (tirerack) Does anyone have any experience with these wheels? The ones i like weigh in at 16.5 each.My goals for this car, reliable turbo daily driver, with a ghetto SOHC KA. I just love the torque it has stock with 215k and ~145 psi of compression. Question: What would a full rebuild with forged pistons, rods, arp studs, all the goodies i would need for a very strong KA, i would like to get the engine to the 300-400hp neighboorhood. Basically, i want as much reliable power from pump premium that i can get, with room to boost more if i feel like buying race gas or Cesna gas.

Also, what should a typical quality paint job cost for a 240sx? My paint is beggining to fade on the front bumper, but the rest of the car is in really nice shape. Oh and does anyone know where all the other forums went?

welcome to NICO.you can find most of the tire/wheel information in Suspension / Wheels section. as for the other forums, if you mean the engines, they are on the main page of the board now. you can usually find most of your questions by using the search button, if not just ask, and someone will help you ;)

Hey Gore, nice deal. I just paid $2000 for my 93 240sx with 140,000 on it, BUT SHES BEAUTIFUL!!

Anyway Dareo, it sounds like you might want to reconsider that KA if you're not prepared to do the rebuild yourself. If you want to realisticly hit 300-400 hp, you're talking about an assload of bolt-ons. ANd I mean an ASSLOAD.

Why not swap that old KA for some thing a little closer to your goal? I'll admit I don't know all the prices out there off the top of my head, but a serious rebuild on a block alone(forged pistons, shotpeened rods, moly-coated crank, full balance and blueprint, etc...Not to mention the labor charge anal-rape by which ever shop does it for you...) can more than pay for a whole SR-20, and put you within close range to afford an RB25det. After you have the head ported on a flow bench(you got one of those?) and replace all the guides, valve springs, valves, bearings, re-balance and blueprint your're still not done. What else, then you have to go buy the turbo, boost controller, intercooler, ecu, injectors, fuel pump, etc...

I'm just trying to say, **** bolt-ons. You're going to nickel and dime yourself to death for minimal horsepower and maximum headache. Swap that motor FIRST and then see where you can go from there.

Oh yea, speaking of nickel and dimed to death, anyone wanna buy a SLIGHLTY USED :D 1987 VW Gti 16v?

91 coupe se, $1700. most things work, not missing too many parts, only a little paint fade and 47 dings, dents or scratches.

Sure, rebuilding and turbocharging a KA will cost some money, but if i want 400hp out of an SR20DET dont i have to buy a lot of 'bolt ons' too? As in totally replacing the fuel system and turbo? Not to mention i lose my beloved low end torque :)

okay yes, you do need more bolt ons. But the amount you need on sr-20 is less. RB25DET is even fewer... You have to weigh the options...

Torque... This is also true, but low end torque is no subsitute for high end gain if done properly. You can always deal with turbo lag, and thats pretty much it when it comes to low end torque deficencies. For example, its not cheap, but the dual program Jim Wolfe nitrous/turbo ECU system would probably negate any problems with low end torque...

I dont know what you want to spend, personally, I forsee myself spending $8k, $9k MAX, on my 240 over a 2.5-3yr period to do what I want (RB25det, 300z rear LSD, 300 z Brakes, front intercool, boost control, coilovers, stress/sway, and a set of 235/ 55 (17-18)'s on a set of nice alloys) I just personally feel a KA is going to be very expensive when compared to other motors as a starting point...

I'm getting into Nissans to save money (I've been working on vw'$), and I personally feel you'd get better bang for your buck in the long run with something other than the KA, but by all means boost that sucker if thats what you want.

you can run a KA turbo without doing anything to the insides.

You can run a stock KA turbo charged, but considering mine has almost 216k miles, im gonna pass on that. The car is now MINE! im so happy, changing lanes on the freeway home was something incredible. Ive always driven rwd trucks and SUVs, and having something that corners awesome is reallly cool right now. Funny thing is, its about as fast as my moms Dakota quad cab, and its got a nice 4.7l V8 thats got nearly 300lbs of torque.

It just depends on what its gonna cost, whether i build a KAT or a SR, i havent even looked into swap shops in Utah yet. RPMrons, just up the road a bit, just got done building a sweet KA motor for 3800, but thats a little more than an SR. But it had everything forged and ported and sugar coated.

Who cares how many miles are on your car - just as long as the car has a good shell, so you can do a nice engine swap.
