Greetings...... I've recently had the pleasure of acquiring a pristine 2004 M45. 39K,Blk/Willow, Premium package, Spoiler, nice Tint.... no Nav but thats ok. A one owner car, garage kept. There is not a dent or a scratch anywhere. I've owned a number of Infiniti's, and I look for extremely clean three year old models, that way I can get an incredible car for half price. This one is the best one yet. Ive been driving a 96Q45 for the last eight years, probably the best car I've ever owned, a true luxury performance car designed from the ground up to take on BMW. But it was twelve years old with 230k miles and I have 90 mile commute during the week, sometimes at night, so I felt the need for a newer car. I test drove a couple of previous 04 M's, the first one took a lot of pedal pressure to automatically downshift, sort of a delayed reaction. The second one was better but the paint didn't match. This one was much more responsive (similar to an 05 Q45 that I have) The build date is 06/04, close to the end of the build cycle. Did they recalibrate the transmission?

This car is a blend of a 65GTO (I had one in 65) and my 96 Q45, a true muscle car with brains.

Nice job finding a clean one!

There was a transmission TSB that did improve the responsiveness one whole heck of a lot. Your latest one may have had that reprogramming done.

Is this TSB something that is done for free or is it something you can ask the dealership to do for you?

First I've heard

Not sure if it is free but I'm going to the dealer on Friday for fluid changes etc and also having the ITB #03034 done. That is a reflash of the upgraded software for the transmission shifting. My car sometimes hesitates when stomping on it to pass. This reflash should get rid of that and give better throttle response. It should have been fixed on 2004's though.

Hello,Welcome my fellow Floridian and 04' driver. Wow, you have both a 04' M and an 05' Q. Nice. Is your 05' equipped with the sport package? Really, really like the 05-06 19' O.E.M sport wheels.Cheers,M.L

That is the TSB that should be done, if it has not on your car. Makes a very perceptible difference.

Hi Mark........ Yes I like my Infiniti cars. The 05Q is a great car, it is not the sport. They included the previous premium package as standard so it is pretty much loaded out.... Nav,Sat,etc. They also tweaked the transmission so it is also more responsive than the previous ones. The performance is very close to the M45 but it is in a quiet comfortable environment. The M feels like you are going faster at the same mph. This first generation M 45 is like the first generation Q45. Very rare and very fast.

Could you let me know if there is a charge for this? I want to compare the information you receive with my local dealership here

Thanks for the information.

I had it done for free when I went for other normal service ...

From what I know (see the TSB for more info), there is some random requirement for an engine code to be locked into the ECU or TCU for them to do it under warranty, as far as I understand. However, any Infiniti dealer worth his salt ought to do it as a "keep the customer happy" action ... particularly if he/she is a regular customer for service work.
