My LS1 S14 build thread

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

this is probably gonna be my last update. over the weekend i FINALLY got to really beat on the car. ive already been to 2 parking lot events but its really hard for the ls to stretch its legs with low speeds.

sunday i was at PIR (Phoenix international raceway) we ran the 1.5 mile road course.

lets just say im in LOVE. heres a few pics

thats 4th gear

lets just say tires dont last as long as they used to hahaha.

car took a little time to get used to on track but at the end of the day i was getting super comfortable in it again. i cant wait to get back out on fast tracks. so far its got about 120 miles on it (80 miles on track) and the *ONLY* issue thats come up is im boiling power steering fluid. i even added a giant cooler on the return side but am still boiling it. ill address that later.

yea i was giggling like a schoolgirl for my first few laps.

i also recently learned that the T56 trans is VERY close (1-5) to a SR/KA/RB20 trans. i thought it was a lot shorter.

MOARR!!!

So I know that your cars set up to drift, but say you tried going in a straight line. What do you think your numbers will be?

most definitely... with some 305/295/285/275 wide tires out back the S14 can be a total drag monster with an LS1 under the hood, I bet the lower geared J30 lsd rear ends would be a benefit to drag racing too.

any updates Kamin? hows the car doing, just sitting in hibernation or what?

we are just about finished with the 5-speed swap in that black kouki S14 (auto = yuck!) that I had and sold to a friend, then sometime in the fall/winter we will LS1T56 swap it for next season. but at least this year he can get out on track @ watkins glen with me and my FC. I'm pondering selling the FC so I can make a LS1S14 for myself too, the S14 has amazing handling, fits a lot of tire and the koukis look so great, I just wish it was easier to find a clean shell for dirt cheap like you can with the S13s.

about a month, but i worked on it every day. sometimes 15 hours a day. it was a busy month. i was in a hurry because it was a last minute swap before our season started. i got my engine from cleveland pick a part, paid 3500.

im trying to work on getting more bite on transitions so ive baiscally softened the rear damping, im gonna get traction arms and i went to a much bigger tire. running a 275/40/17 now.

the only changes to the engine i am planning to make is redoing the exhaust, and maybe a little more power somewhere down the road. no hurry.

i have dual 2.5" side exits now but its not loud enough haha

im gonna do true duals with turndowns right before the diff with no mufflers. should be wall-shaking loud when im done.

too be honest i dont think its at a stage where its "loud enough" and you just want "louder"

i dont think its loud enough yet...i think you need to redo it just to make it loud enough, then see where you can go from there

i dont think you were any louder than the other cars in that video, and id be willing to bet their not running open sidepipes

whats sound limits at PIR and firebird Joe? 103?

there is no sound limit at PIR.

and honestly video doesnt do it justice, its not nearly as "loud" in person. it has a great rumble at idle, but in the high RPM it gets quiet. i think its because they are specific race mufflers not regular flows/magnaflows.

damn thats sweet, watkins glen and most other tracks around here are like 99 ish, but lime rock is 89 worse than laguna seca

dude did you see some of the pics of the exhaust setups people had to run at the redline finals?

you could always just make a laguna specific exhaust with like 2 mufflers on each pipe

then unbolt those and bolt on the straight sections with turndowns you were talking about...you could make the 2 seperate systems use the same hangers and just unbolt them behind the headers...you dont have an X pipe or anything like that do you?
