Hey all,

I’m new to the forum; but, have been an on-again / off-again lurker for many, many years. All you guys contribute to a great site! Congrat’s!

I’m the proud owner of a 91Q45…most fun car I’ve ever owned! A few years ago I decided I’d only drive it in good weather and garaged it prior to one of our Chicago winters. My intent was to address the chain guide issue and a couple of the other typical problems. Prior to rolling her in, she was running great! I think I had one injector ohming a bit low, but it wasn’t noticeable. In fact, if I wasn’t looking at the tach, it was hard to tell she was running.

Well…work, kids, etc. have dominated my time and she sits in the garage still. I think I started her up once that first winter (08). My question is: short of the chain guides, (please don’t start that, I know the risks), what should I absolutely do prior to starting her up again. I’ve always taken good care of the engine and tyranny and want to do what I can short of the guides.

I should add I’m doing this in order to sell her. If I ended up doing the guides, I’d just keep her. Feel free to take a look at my Craigslist posting: Visit the posting at http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/2461578850.html

Who knows, if she doesn’t sell, I just might document a Chain Guide job on the site.

Best to you all,

Scott

Hey welcome to NICO!

For a grand I might consider it, anyway I could see some more pics? Is this car gray/gray? I am in N.E. Indiana.

In any event, I would definitely change your oil and drain the transmission pan and refill.. Those 2 things I would do before running it any length of time, ESPECIALLY the engine oil.. It is surely all drained into the pan after 3 years (LOL)

I am assuming you're planning on not doing the guides for the time being?

Wes,

Yes, Grey on Grey. I have more pic's, I can either add more to the CL post; or, attach here - not sure how. Let me know what you prefer.

With that much time for sure your battery is stone cold dead and probably not going to come back to life. I would also think the gas in the tank is crap and your motor oil is done too. If you only had a few gallons in there adding 10 gallons of gas with some good injector cleaner should take care of it. Then run to burn it all off and top off with a fresh tank of gas. I would also do an oil change before starting it up too.

Your best bet might be to bring a brand new battery to the car, or get a home charger and see if it will take a slow trickle charge over 24 hours. Sears sells a decent one of these, I use it for my Z that sits for lots of time in the garage without use.
