does anyone know what kinda tranmission it is. i know its a 5 speed but is it a t5

how can you tell the difference between a na wiring harness and turbo harness. can i use the na harness on the turbo?? i know some things wont fit but properly???

for background info i plan on using a megasquirt ecu

It's not a T5, it's an FS5W71B which is the non turbo box. Seeing the two tabs on the back makes me believe that it's the wider ratio 280Z box. Sell it and re-coup the cash for a T5. You can tell because the T5 has a removable bell housing, has 4 bolts that hold the shifter, and has borg-warner plastered over everything.

If you're not running the stock ecu, I wouldn't worry about the stock wiring harness. There's no sense in using a 30 year old bit of electronics to make a new motor and ecu talk to each other. As much as you'll splice in and out for various things you may or may not use, Just make a new one with the new plug.

if you pklan to run megasquirt, you place the ecu or relay board where you want it and runt he wires from the injectors, iat, chts, tps etc to the ecu, or relay board depending on what setup you run

IAT=Intake Air TempCHTS= Cylinder head temp sensorTPS=Throttle position sensor

You're also going to need MAP (manifold absolute pressure)InjectorsCoil drivers for whatever you're runningTrigger wheel, or wire the ZXT dizzy for the same purposeUEGO (Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen) which is a wide band O2, or you'll need a narrow band O2, with the WB02 you'll need a driver to run it...

And whatever other things you plan to run (electric fan, fuel pump, boost control, etc.)

the map is on die form megasquirt, or you can still run the afm or convert to a maf but the map is superior and much easier to deal with

coils can be driven by add on transistors or trigered remotely via msd, edis, hei or any randown ignitor

you can triggern megasquirt with the stock n/a distributor

and a wideband makes tunign a breeze

for a different trans or for the stock 4 speed?

Every L 6 cylinder is externally the same demensions. The LD28 is different in deck height but that's it.

With a different trans or a different diff, you'll probably have to shorten it.

you don't ahve to shorten the shaft but you might need to swap it, depending on what diff you are running, I IRC the stock 280z shaft fits with the 280zx 5 speed

basically yes, the early 4 speed on the series 1 chassis 140z had a removable bellhousing and an even worse shifter than the later S30 chassis cars
