My Key fob broke-can I drill it?

The plastic bit that I would attach my key to a key ring broke. Just the "fob" part of the plastic-the rest of the plastic is still there.

Since our keys have a chip (I think), I figured it best to ask if it is safe to drill a hole somewhere or not.

This is on my spare key, but I keep misplaceing it because it can't attach to the ring with my other spares.
