Wrap the P/S lines, ceramic coat the MC, turbine, manifold, DP.Looks like a clean install from the start. It'll get cleaner as you start trashing some of those things you don't need :)

I like the way you re-routed the MAF wiring, one of my projects when I switch to Z32 MAF.

Congrats,

Jesse

I can't see all the hardware you used, but it doesn't look like any of it is of the locking variety. This includes the exhaust manifold nuts(to the head), the turbo nuts, and the wastegate bolts. For the exhaust mani and turbo nuts, I'd go to the nissan dealer and get the factory mechanical locknuts. They are the nuts for the exhaust manifold. It appears you are using a rev-hard mani, so the threading on the studs should match the Nissan exhaust mani's studs. For the wastegate, I'd use a nut designed to be used with a safety wire or a stage 8 locking bolt system. Spring washers will lose their heat treat and basically become flat washers in the first heat cycle. If the wastegate bolts come loose, the gasket will likely blow soon afterwards. I've went through about 8 wastegate gaskets myself trying to solve this problem.

I'm interested in getting some of this Stage 8 locking bolts. C-kwik, do you happen to know what thread/pitch does a Tial 35mm wastegate use? And also, what did you use for the downpipe to turbo flange? Studs and nuts? or bolts? What kind?

Sorry to ask so much, but since I'm rebuilding I wanna get rid of the exhaust mani leak recurring issue also.

Off the top of my head, maybe M8 x 1.25? I know the thread pitch is 1.25.

As far as the turbo to downpipe connection, I haven't noticed anyone haveing any issues with these. The previous owner of my turbo kit had these pretty tight, despite the fact that the ones holding down the turbo didn't even need a wrench to remove. I happen to be using nots and bolts. I got mechanical locknuts just because they were available.

The Stage 8 stuff is nice, but expensive. Modifying my bolts to accept a safety wire cost me next to nothing. I used allen head bolts though as they are a bit easier to drill through the side of due to the taller head.

And I understand about trying to eliminate loosening hardware. I battled it for a year before I found something that works.

Thanks for the thread info. BUt now I'm interested in what you did. I did search on what we talked about last time:
C-Kwik wrote:If you are limited to using bolts, then try using some safety wire.My wastegate is held on by socket head bolts. There's not enough room for a stud/mechanical locknut set up. I drilled a hole through the head of each bolt across the axis of the bolt and I run safety wire through them. I've had no exhaust leaks since.
I might be dumb but I just don't get it. How does safety wire work on bolts? On the head? I understand how it works on nuts and bolts, drilling the bolt end and running safety wire so the nut can't back out. But using it on bolts baffles me. Could you explain? Pics would be nice :pface

I drilled a small hole through the side of the bolt head. After fastening the wastegate down, I ran the wire through the bolt heads in a way that if either bolt tries to back out, it will triy to tighten the other bolt.

To drill the hole, I made a jig out of a angle piece of metal. Drilled a hole, and then used a tap to allow me to thread the bolt through the angle. Then clamped it down to my drill press and used a small bit to drill the hole. This made it pretty easy to make 4 of them repeatedly and consistently.

Here's a rather poor photo of my wastegate. Sorry I do not have much more than my camera phone to take the photo with.

C-Kwik, thanks for posting your experience on the WG gasket - those tips should help me out. The small things kill us sometimes :)

Yep, my mechanic explained it to me when I delivered my "new" block to him on Saturday. The simplicty of it all just caught me of guard. But thanks for taking the time of taking a pic and all C-kwik. U rule!!!
