Okay so i want to swap my current ka into an AE86 i will be buying because i will be turning my 240sx into a project car. So i was wondering if any of you ka guys have ever heard of such setups? and if you know what is needed than can you please tell me or point me in the right direction. I have a complete KA24de with 5 speed transmission ready for transplant. currently its in my 240sx just sitting because of dmv fees, smog issues, and registration. DAMN strict california's strict automotive regulations. thanks for the help.

Since the AE86 is rear drive it should be a matter of custom engine mounts, transmission mounts, some wiring... the engine in the ae86 is a 1.6 liter if i remember correctly and a fairly compact block, so there might be some clearance issues to deal with. Overall its probably allot of work just to put an old 2.4 liter motor into an older chassis. Thats just my opinion tho. I've never heard of it being done.

any engine can be swapped with the rite cutting and welding tools:)...as the ae86 had the 4ag in it and was a compact motor and transmission..you might need to clearence the floorboard to house the transmission..allso there might be an issue with the shifter line'in up with where the old shifter sat...one way to correct that..is by moving the engine forward in the bay...it would be a neet project to do as a just becouse..but to waste lots of cash on a swap of an old engine..into one of the most desireable cars in the world ( legendary AE86 ) would be a horrifying waste of most drifters dream cars...just my opinion...id keep the good O'l hatchi in one piece..specially if it had a 4AG in it..and do a japanese driver side convertion..thats would be cool..and get levin or trueno clip's..ohh even cooler...good luck.

Only 1975 and earlier cars are exempt in CA. You can contact a smog referee to see what you're limitations are. Swapping engine manufacturers is a lot more difficult than just swapping different year motors in.

that would be the easy way^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^in another forum there was a guy who had a build thread on his FD with a KA-t swapped in. turned out pretty nice.

one question though, if ur planning on turning ur 240 into a project car, then what is ur KA ae86 gonna be?

if they can put an SR in one, why not a KA? (see Daren Macnamaras UKD1 AE86 pre-sky days) and Hibino from J-D1, hes got an SR in his too i believe... i personally like the S2000 motor set because its red line is close to the 4AG and you get VTEC YO!good luck!

Ps.. anyone ever used the "gross polutters clause" mention on the back of registration paperwork... something about gov't money to make neccessary repais to pass emmissions? anyone?
