Hey guys. My 1992 Nissan 240sx has almost 170,000 miles. At first I was thinking of swapping in a SR20DET. Now I think I might be rebuilding my KA. Should I wait til the motor blows to rebuild or should I just go ahead and do the rebuilt.

I plan on doing a stock rebuilt and buying the Greddy Turbo kit for $2,700.

Turbo Kit $2,700Stock rebuilt: gaskets, pistons, piston rings, rod bearings, main bearing $1,000

Clutch and flywheel $700

boost controller, turbo timer, and gauges $600

water pump, oil pump, accessories belts $300

Does this look right or am I missing something? Thanks for your time.

Instead of buying the kit for $2700, i would piece it all together myself. Like i almost did getting there). For $2000 or less you would have it. So, invest $700 into something else, or whatever. If you have another car, why wait till it blows? Or if you have a chance, just do it.

piecing it together sounds great. What are the things I need?

I wouldn't rebuild it with stock parts...save the money and buy forged internals. Fiznat, the other mod for KAT spent a ton of money on everything, rebuilt his motor with forged pistons...new bearings etc...then tossed a rod through his block. When you get you're car running and all the bugs worked out, then toss a rod...well you just don't want to even bother with it anymore.

The rods suck in the KA. Sure some people have run for a decent amount of time, but then there are some who destroy the entire motor, block and all.

Buy forged internals or don't rebuild it at all.

Its no big deal, our "search" function isn't ideal. We're working on it

Buy another ka block. Turbo it, and run like 8psi and get use to the car. Rebuild yoru current engine with rods and pistons. Piece your kit together don't buy a kit unless it's someone else's at a great price.
