Mechanic has been going crazy swapping harnesses coil packs etc.... tells me it is requireing 15 extra hours labor to get this motor in my Q

as well the exhaust manifoldis not going to line up.

Then discovers the variable cam timing plug is different and is set at a different angle either 12 o'clock or 3 o'clock

the JDM supplier wants to send a new motor, Mechanic is waiting to hear from their tech to see if he can make this one work.

He has put much time and new parts into this motor.

This is a 9093 motor into a 95, right? There was some question about how difficult it might be. Apparently, it's a real headache.

Manifolds are probably a LHD/RHD problem.

I'm surprised the coil packs/harnesses are not the same.

Does your importer have one that "matches" the motor removed from your car? That may be your best option, though it would be interesting (and good to have) information for the future if you could figure out what and why it's not "working". I realize right now your fpocus is on getting the install completed, so fact finding isn't a priority, but atleast capturing the "issues" may help the next guy.

yes the importer Biach does have the proper motor and offered to swap but my mechanic did a ton of work on this one already and is waiting for a call from a JDM Tech in Va. to call him

9093 CAS.
yep i agree the cas had NISSAN printed on it as well and the tech could not guaranty it working - my mechanic should not have trusted the importer and checked throughly if it was the proper engine befor he did work on it and wasted everyones time. I asked him what he learned from this experience "never do a Q45 motor swap again"

At least that experience is now in the archives for any future searches. Thanks, James.

what he should have learnedis do not start work and swapping things over until u have inspected carefully to be sure u have the correct motor.

Even with the CORRECT year engine expect 15 hours of R&R...........exhaust manifolds and new gaskets, valve cover reseal and spark plugs, under plenum work, cleaning TB and EGR system, new front and rear main seals, new drive belts, a new water pump, new idler pullies, viscous fan, oil pan reseal.

Buying and shipping the newish engine is the cheap part!

Always remember that there 3 engine families that physically fit [will sit] on engine mounts of 90-96Q.........PLUS there was a Q4.1 truck motor and a few other truck V8 that hopefully never get to US. But with exporters/imports not knowing much about the engines...........just another Nissan junkyard takeout to most of them............lots of difference between will it fit vs will it work. We always end uo educating our importers.

You would be surprise at how many wrong engines they TRY to deliver for Nissan and Lexus. We always have a tech go over the engine BEFORE its off loaded to our shop and occasionally we still get weird versions that usually can be made to work.

We recently went nutso with a 98 LS400 VVT engine [300HP] the Japanese version is very different from US version. Yes Lexus engines do fail if you don't change the oil and allow overheats. Just 8 years old and under 100k

BUYER BEWARE!

Qtech - the 12-15 hours was in addition to the 12-15 to prep for install (ie. valve covers plugs under plenum etc>>)...)the new jdm motor came from a much more knowledgable source, and had all info on the car it came out of and documenting actual milege onthe recipt.

Sounds about right [12-15+12-15 = 24-30] HOURS WE CHARGE 25 HOURS PLUS anything extraordinary like a traction/active engine car.As I remember about 33 hours labor was the worst correct engine year model swap...................$2500 labor plus engine plus parts [say $1000-$1500] PLUS $1500-$1650 FOR ENGINE~~$5650 WORST CASE,Most ranged from $4500-$5200............sometimes you got engines cheaper than other months depends on local inventory and how many came in each container shipment.

One time I came with $1200 cash, they had 6 in stock so cash money spoke that day.

Amazing how many tried to nickel and dime a swap...........skipping important replacements, reseals, anything to save a buck.Save $400 now for knock sensors and risk $1000 later for a replacement when the engine gets cranked..............no warranty on any part that doesn't get changed seems a hard concept to get across.
