My J30t sounds like a diesel engine I know I need an exhaust gasket do you know if that is the reason?? Also I have a miss fire what could that be?? Is it normal for a j30t to shift hard?? there is no slipping you just feel it shift?

Thanks for the help and sorry about all the questions...im just a newbie

how does it sound exactly, is the noise comming from the engine (internal sounds) like detonation for example?....... or is it an external sound (exhaust system has holes)

for the misfire, do a power balance test, turn on your engine, let it idle, then remove one spark plug wire at a time, untill you find one that doesnt change the idle (idle should drop slightly when you remove each plug wire)

shifting hard could be your TPS sensor (the small black box with 2 wires coming out of it, on the driver side throttle intake), have you changed it or adjusted it lately?, if it is not adjusted properly, it could cause the transmission to shift harsh and only at high (3000 and above) rpm (if you are driving it normally, the transmission should switch gears at around 2500 rpm, if it is doing that, dont readjust the TPS)

no ..When running properly you can barely tell its running from inside at idle. You have a missfire for some reason.

check spark plugs, this happened with my j30 when a bosch spark plug actually broke inside the cylinder and caused it to misfire.

check condition and get new plugs, they are only $1.99 each
