Hey , i have a 93 infiniti j30 and it runs great with no problems...until now...my power steering has been very heavy for the past few months...when im driving it is on and off ( free then stiff) and yesterday and the day before it was free as a bird... but i think it was only because the temperature outside was over 32 degrees celcius... i really need help on this ...i know it cant be the pump if it suddenly started working again...its not the fluid...WHAT CAN IT BE???please help me

I would hazard an educated guess that your power steering pump is on the way to failing with or without a leak.

is there a possibility that it could be the power steering solenoid?

Its possible. I think the solenoid throws a code. Do you have HICAS?

Before you go throwing money at it for a pump replacement, buy a bottle lucas power steering treatment and see what that does for you. It's good stuff and is only a few dollars.

Get a turkey baster and get out as much of the old fluid that you can and then add the Lucas.

Bingo.

And the Lucas is very thick so it will take awhile for it to circulate through the system. (Day or two.)

I would loosen the power steering belt and see if the pulley moves freely...the bearing in the pulley may be shot...

If the pulley is shot I would think you'd just get a squealing belt.

If Lacus doesn't work , you are more than likely going to need to replace the pump.

[SARCASM]Well geez, it's only a 15 year old car. I can't imagine why the power steering pump failed in that short time. [/SARCASM]
