I'd like to start off by saying awesome forum, I wish I found this place a long time ago (probably would have saved my quite some time and money). Props to all the knowledgeable J owners, I thought I was the only one who loved my J.

Moving on to the problem, a few days ago while driving I noticed the car suddenly was barely able to move when i stepped on the gas. The car started rocking very agressively, and was kind of like sputtering when I would press on the gas. I quickly got the car home, Today I had a mechanic Diagnose it, and they informed me that one of my injectors has gone bad, so its technically running on 5 cylinders. He's said that to get to the injectors he's gotta remove the entire intake manifold, which is 5hrs labor, and he's recommending I change all 6 injectors since he's gonna spend the time taking it off and putting it back on.

Now for the injectors, he's saying $135 each X 6 = $810, manifold gaskets $40, Plus 5 hours labor @ 65 an hour for a grand total of $1175....... $1175 ..

Now I've found rebuilt injectors for 40 bucks each , so totaling 240 bucks.

My question is: Is there anyway I can do this repair at home? He said its a difficult task to remove and reinstall the manifold, since so many lines and cables and junk is hooked up to it. I mean even if it takes me 8 hours (that's $40 an hour). Since my job only pays me 20 bucks an hour, I can take a day off, Fix the J, and it'll be like i still went to work (as far as money saved).

But if it is something that shouldn't be attempted, do let me know, since he said if I don't give him the car by Thursday, It'll have to wait until next Tuesday.

Any advice, opinion, insight, is GREATLY appreciated. My thanks in advance.

awesome bro, I appreciate it so much. It really sounds do-able, and it makes sense. Have you tried this particluar method? Also when measuring the 10-14 ohm resistance in the injector, is this done with the car off? and the key in or out of the ignition? I'm calling a friend right now to borrow his ohm meter. thanks again!!

I havent dealt the injectors yet ,, But Im sure someone will chime in ,I would think the ohms would be read with the ignition off ..The meter would freak with a DC pulse going through it

Well I ran the tests, and yes cylinder number six has a faulty injector. I was really looking forward to using the grinding technique, but because its so tight and unaccessible back there it makes it near impossible to grind away enough of the plenum to gain access to the bolt. (Its funny, the first injector is barely covered by the plenum, by the time you reach #6, its so far covering it, I estimate at least 3/4's of an inch.

So Im going to pull out the upper plenum. Its not that bad, jst A lot of electric crap and vauum lines, and hoses to disconnect. However i was really debatng, that sinced im going to be emptying alot of stuff from the engine bay, I should change the timing belt as well. The J's got 123,000 Miles, and i havent changed the belt. So It'll be half the work, since I'm gonna be pulling lots out of the engine bay. I might even change the water pump since its right there.

Now Another question, My AC hasnt worked for a few years, since I had a litte accident and damaged the a/c radiator in the front. Does anyone know where i can pick up a fairly inexpensive one?

any other pointers related to any of the work I'll be performing is Greatly Appreciated.

Again my sincere thanks in advance.
