In case you may have missed it, I had started a thread called "Sometimes I hate my J30". In that thread I talked about the fact that I've had to replace my power window regulators several times. In the middle of that rant, I mentioned that I was worried my sunroon would go out next.

Hence this thread. Tonight, my sunroof DID BREAK!!!! It will open but when I try to close it, the sunroof door binds on the passenger side and it won't close. I was able to close it by holding the switch in the close position while applying pressure to the side that's binding ARGH!!! Sooooooooooooo, I came straight to NICO to do a search on the topic.

The good news is that the repair kit is only about $40. The bad news is that it appears to be A TON OF WORK! I found this thread with detailed instructions on how do go about it.

The question is, is this really a DIY job? Sounds VERY involved. Have any of you taken on this job?

(Knocking wood as I write) Thankfully I have had no problems with my windows. I once had the sun roof jam after the car had been sitting in direct sun on a very hot day. No problems since. (Still knocking wood) The job is very pricey at the dealership and I remember one quote for the job was over a thousand dollars. Lubrication and clean sliding surfaces are the key. Having the right tension on the wires is probably very important too.

Do we have a detailed thread on sunroof maintenance?

I'd search, but my dial up is SLOW tonight. Damn this archaic POS.

Hell, you should feel bad for me! ;)

So, has anyone tried to do this themselves? Is it a DIY project. I'm sure it's very time consuming but I'm worried about the difficulty, not time.

Hitman, I seem to remember a sunroof thread, but it had something to do with an interior leak . . . Keep them clean! There are drain holes that can become clogged with leaves and debris. Also, good idea to wipe down the tracks and put new white grease. Keep 'em sliding!

Thanks for the tips on the sunroof tracks. I just bought some white grease spray and plan on cleaning the tracks this week, then lubing.

My J30 doesn't like to open when the sun has been on it. (Actually, it opens part way. Then I'm able to inch it open as more cool air hits it.) Luckily it hasn't had any problems closing.

Will do. Thanks Daniel. Have you had to push up on your sunroof after a good application of grease?

BTW, nice wheels. Wish mine looked as nice.
