I don't want to be lied to...cheap spot.I don't want to pay and arm and a leg...infiniti dealer.

I think namebrand spots have an obligation to be somewhat honest for fear of lawsuits or inevstigations.

Jiffy LubeMidieke (however u spell it)MidasSears (if they do it)Kmart (if they do it)Infiniti Dealer?

Thanks for your help. P.S. - where can I find the "kit" I need to get rid of the leak in my sunroof.

Joe at scottsdale has the sunroof kit.....

Tune-up is such a vague term.... Can you describe how the car runs that would make you think it needs a tuneup....

Most of the things can be done at home with little experience and minimal tools for much cheaper!!

You won't pay much more for an oil change at the dealership, if you dont want to or are unable to do it yourself. If you bring it someplace else (e.g. Jiffy Lube) get an OEM oil filter from Scottsdale.

Is your sunroof operative? or is it binding? If its just misadjusted, as I said in your other thread, you can manually adjust/close the sunroof from under the control panel/map light with an allen wrench. But your probably heading toward binding if its still working I'd guess.

I actually had to remove and shim my sunroof panel to prevent it from leaking.

The sunroof kit is is for broken cables and costs ~ $30 but requires inordinate amounts of labor - so if you go this route, you'll have to decide if you want to pay for the labor (I want to say abour $1200, maybe it was more, I can't remember) or do it your self.

If you do it yourself, you have an extraordinary resource from Carlos' website:

All those franchise chains you mentioned are among the worst places to have tehse things done.

Time and again reports surface alleging cars damaged thru fraud or gross incompetence at these chains.

While many honest + competent operators do exist.I recommend an indepdent repair shop for your tune-up.

But I have to echo Wes' statement. Why tune-up? Is it simply time? Then you are applauded for good maintance habits and go ahead have it done.

But if you want one because you have drivability problems, please undertstnad athat tune-up nowadays only means you got new plugs (MUST use NGK OEM).

A drivability problem may have many causes otehr than plugs and you would be adived to tell us your symptoms in ONline Mechanic so we can help you with diagnosis.

My bad. I changed to a new thread because I need to find a place tomarrow because the gas milage is soooo bad and I needed some quick answers. I also just bought the car and am not sure of the maintence records so I figure it may need something. I want to take good care of it, but I don't know where to start. . .

Buying a J or Q without an inspection can leave you needing $3,000 to $10,000 of work.

It amazes me that anyone would buy a 8-9 year old car without spending $200 first.

Get an oil change at the dealer and ask them to go over everything and make a list [they might charge you an hour $85-$100] if you don't get some of the work done there........but best at making a list.

Many stay away from dealer because they are afraid to find out the truth............assume the dealer will skip some things and rank them by their own safety parameters...........so add some money to their list...........then figure you can get it done for 25% less somewhere else..............maybe?

You'll find Nissan rates cheaper than Infniti, also, you'll find Nissan dealerships much more accomodating when bringing your own parts (from Joe).

In addition, Nissan techs have experience w/ the VG30DE

I really wished I would have done that!!!!!! I might have been able to knock off a grand off the purchase price!!

Although, I did get a brand new fuel pump and some other assorted things with it!!!

If your getting horrible gas mileage then mabey you should consider getting your fuel system checked/flushed/cleaned. It could be somthing simple as to a build up or just something faulty. The term "Tune-up" really gets thrown around alot. I think it would be more beneficial to just get the car checked out like Q45tech and Palmer are saying. No sense in completely rebuilding your motor if its just a carbon build up!

The problem with Infiniti dealerships is that the mechanics don't know anything about the older cars like the 1st gen Q and the J. Most of the guys at the dealership are only trained in the newer cars.
