Things I've done so far (a days work):

[Copied from what have you done to your Z today thread]

I purchased for my Z:
350z wheels
yellow lens film for fog lights
some body filler and tack clothes
sand paper
primer
aluminum gauge bezel
LED kit for gauges
new air filter
dash pocket
sent money in for my NICOClub decal

Installed
short throw shifter w/ z1 motorsports bearings
installed ebay seat with bracket I made!
replaced horn fuse and relay with junkyard parts and realized that my horn is blown (but i think it sounds funny so I'm going to keep it like that lol)
replaced driver side rear quarter glass
installed "Nissan Fairlady Z" decal on hatch lid
" "Nismo" decals on rear quarter windows
repaired some connectors under the hood

Megan Racing short throw shifter with Z1 bushings installation wasn't as simple as some may anticipate.

WELCOME TO NICO!

I can't see the pictures either :(

If you need a new quarter glass let me know, I have some used ones I could ship out.

I figured out why the pictures aren't working.. It is because when you organized them into their own folders "Z32" "Z31" ect it broke the links that you had so all you have to do is repost them now that they are in their new location.

Thanx everyone for the warm welcome. I'll fix the links to the images shortly. I was uploading tons of photos of both my Zs and trying to organize them at the same time I was writing this thread.

Here is a picture of my z31 in case any of you are wondering, about it's current state.

Image

She is a work in progress that has slowed quite a bit since I had twin boys this past February. It is going to be my more performance oriented Z until this VG30DE in my Z32 decides to give up on me and I do a TT conversion.

I should also give some background on this Z32, I purchased it for the low price of $950 and paid $225 to tow it back to my house.

The car came with a bunch of receipts and from what I gather from them, there was over $4k put into this car in service and repairs at two different repair shops, including a replacement motor with 60k on it two years and 20k miles ago.

The owner was fed up with putting money into it and decided to sell it. I might be missing something or just got super lucky because I bought it the very morning it was posted on craigslist and the guy "said" he had four other guys coming to see it and that I was the first one to show up.

The car runs and drives and seems to be running pretty good. It idles pretty solid, doesn't blow any smoke out of the exhaust and has started every time I turn the key since I put a new battery in it.

I live in the northeast so some rust areas do need to be remedied and soon will be. Here is a pic of the worst area of the vehicle.

Image

going to have to get some sheet metal and get out the welder for this "cancer" that effects every vehicle in this region (if you drive it during the winter)

Any comments, suggestions, parts you may have for sale that I could use, etc. please leave it below and thanx for viewing.

Might have been the reason people got scared of it and didn't buy it. Pinch welds support the car alright, but I have been jacking up from the subframe using wood blocks between the jack and car. I figured at the price I got it for I could drive it and part it when it dies or total rebuild. I enjoy the car for what it is right now, it's better than having the money I spent on it just sitting in a bank account. I have a z31 that has spent its life here in the tri state area and it also has fallen victim to some cancer. Other vehicles I have worked on have been far more severe, I've replace sections of floors on two of my old vws and replaced a front section of a frame on my cabrio. Needless to say this rust area upset me but in no way am I intimidated, in fact I will be tackling it sometime in the next week in the cold :frown:

Are you referring to the stock NA wing that looks like it is supposed to be on a spaceship? or the one that I stacked on top of it. lol. I am removing the stock one and I'm going to put the other one on that I picked from the local pick and pull. I have no information on spoiler I am putting on but I do know that it surely looks better than the stock wing.

He was actually referring to the wing that you got from the pick and pull to test fit it. He didn't realize that you are going to install it haha.

IMHO the stock wing looks much better. But nice work thus far, keep it up!

Thanks I appreciate it. I can't keep this stock spoiler, it reminds me too much of a Dodge stealth or a Mitsubishi 3000GT. I'm pretty sure the wing I got from the pick and pull off of a z32 is this one you see in the picture below.

I will put it on tomorrow with double sided adhesive and see how I like it. It needs some repair and a fresh coat of paint, we'll see how it goes. I will post pictures.

I'm not to worried about repairing the rust in the cold, I have an electric space heater that I will be keeping right by my side that will keep the filler, me, and the section I am working on warm. I do have some updates for those who are interested.

I bought 350z wheels for cheap and they had some curb rash so I decided to dremel it a bit with the 120 grit sanding attachment at 5k rpm just to get the edges a little smoother before I plastidipped them.

Image

Then I figured that I wanted to either go with a charcoal, black or white finish. I decided to try out the charcoal plasti dip first with glossifier

Image

They will go on my Infiniti I35 until I sell it, bc the tires on the infiniti wheels are pretty shot, then they will go on the z32 :dblthumb:

Next I plan to:

remove factory installed spoiler, remove the front bumper, put in new CAI including piping, hoses, filter, prime vader body kit front bumper and test fit, cover fog light lenses in yellow tinting film, replace gear oil in rear differential, and try to tackle the body work too. I am always looking to purchase parts first and second hand, so if you stumble upon this thread and have something you think I may be interested in buying please contact me. Any performance parts I will be interested in more than likely, also I need a catback exhaust system for my 2+2 Z32 so if you got one let me know. I hope you guys are enjoying this thread I am putting together. As always any comments, criticism, jokes, etc. are always welcome.

I want everyone to keep in mind that I have twin boys that are 10 months old and I don't have much time for my step children (my two Zs) but I try to spend a day each week getting them up to speed. I hope you guys are enjoying this thread I am putting together. As always any comments, criticism, jokes, etc. are always welcome. :chuckle:

Most of what I wanted to do hasnt been completed yet, but here is an update.

I put the 350z wheels on my Z after I plasti dipped them a charcoal grey color.

Image

I must get the dent by the gas door out, ASAP!

Body work is very time consuming as many of you may or may not know. I am trying to get it done in the cold but the temperature this time of year fluctuates a lot in one day so it leaves me very little time to do work each day. I am going to put this car on the road soon, and finish up the body work on my z31 and bleed the clutch so I can use the garage it has been sitting in to work on my z32.

I began body work on the passenger side and didn't get the chance to complete it because of how cold it is in NY right now and my garage being used for my z31 project.

Updates

-I've installed LED gauges and brushed aluminum gauge surround, I'll get pictures of it done at some point.

-Installed a Cold Air intake

-Installed dash pocket (mine was missing when I bought it)

-removed the silencers in my mufflers, couldn't stand how they looked in the muffler. (will change exhaust eventually to full header back exhaust)

-replaced turn signals with clear ebay turn signals bc I was missing one and it was far cheaper to get the clear ones.

Plans within the nedxt week or two

-Replace shifter support boot and boot seal (already ordered, waiting for it)

-Install Kenwood kdc-255U deck

-lowering springs

-front and rear strut bars

-ZG fender flares in the rear

-Possibly replace the speakers with some I have laying around

-repair drivers side window

-repair my parking brake (it is non-existent at this point)

-change gear oil in rear differential

There is probably more I am forgetting but I will remember once it is done. I am proud of the progress I've made and there is much more to come.

So, I have had this Z32 on the road for about a month and a half and approximately 650 miles. It runs and drives ok. There are a few things I need to address though. Very poor fuel economy and a gas smell along with a faint ticking sound in the engine bay lead me to believe that I have a misfire and that needs to be diagnosed. I am very mechanically inclined as you may or may not know from this or other posts. I see that the coils were replaced but not all of them. It appears that they replaced three of them with the new style coil connectors so I am going to replace all of them along with injectors and spark plugs since I'm already at it. I also need to replace all the belts because there is a belt squeal when I turn on the heat and when I am turning (probably power steering pump tension is messed up) I have many other plans for the vehicle and a pile of parts that are waiting to be installed but for the sake of trying to keep this lower mileage VG in commission I need to address these issues.
