so i've decided to cut out the bumper parts on my gle where the se has fogs and put mesh in there. after that i'll run an intake pipe to the opening to have a real ram air cai but...i might get water in there so i planned to buy a bypass valve until i saw that it'a just a filter that sucks from the sides.

so my Q is: isn't it going to suck hot air from the engine bay all the time? is there a point to have ram air cai with the bypass valve? seems to kinda defeat the whole purpose of cold air...

also isn't the forced air escape through the bypass valve?

Unless the filter is clogged then the bypass valve will not be used. Ram-air itself is a misnomer as you will never get fast enought to force air into the intake faster than the motor is pulling it in. Having it pull air from outside would make it a more "true" CAI tho.

I have ducting running to the lower bumper opening on my Q. Never had an issue with water, and my car is LOW.

so i shouldn't worry about getting a bypass valve then? i'll trust you on that one but if i get hydro lock i'm picking you up and you'll help me deal with it - i'm only about 6.5 hours away
