So I think something is up with my IACV under the throttle body. I had my car off and siting in the driveway for 3 hours, I popped my hood, and I started hearing a weird noise, was intermittent.

It sounded pretty faint but like a faint duck call, or a spring releasing, but I put my hand under my intake and on the flat round end of thre iacv and it was almost to hot to hold (while the rest of the engine was cool to touch). I could feel some movement inside the iacv while it was making the noise

I then continued on with my paintjob and the noise stopped sometime inbetween then, w havent started the car and ran it yet but it hasnt made the noise again.

What could be going on???

The black cylinder with the blue connector is what is very hot and where the noise is coming from.

I do believe my car threw a P0505 (iacv code) maybe a year ago but it never came back after being cleared...

My car throws P1110 religiously if that matters, but I dont think they are related.

P1110 is Intake Valve Timing Control (IVTC), left bank. Which means it is solenoid or sensor. It had the same issue on the right bank, turned out to be my sensor (part #: 23731-2Y52A)

Have you tried cleaning the IACV? I'm not too familiar with the part (my Pathy doesn't have one) but I read that it needs to be cleaned sometimes. I have also read that you need to be extremely gentle with it because it's fairly sensitive.

Ya I tried to fix P110 by changing both sensors but the check engine light still comes on.

I havent tried cleaning the IACV, last time, and only time I removed it. Was the first time I checked my spark plugs when I bought the car. It never had this problem though. Just started

Now I bought some oem plugs so Im going to have to remove this IACV again, just didnt know what I should do with it.

considering that coolant flows through the IACV, are you surprised its hot?? open up your radiator and stick your finger in the coolant (actually, dont) but thats how hot your IACV is gonna be.

And yeah sometimes it makes a faint noise with the engine off. All R50's do this - its very normal, i wouldn't worry about a thing unless you actually start having problems.

Well the 2 times Ive heard it make this noise now (only once touched the IACV) the car had been sitting both times for the entire night, and the iacv was almost to hot to touch and I doubt the rad was close to that hot but I dont know

I pulled the check engine light becauuse of the constant P110 problem, but Ill scan the car in an hour and see if its throwing anything new

Just thought the noise might mean something faulty

Without trying to upset any one, IACV Idle Air Control Valve and its AAC auxiliary Air valve allow more or less air in to rev engine higher as when A/C is used. Does this make sense for your QX4? If the valve was hot with engine cold the electric solenoid part is creating heat and this happens when the solenoid is energized but dirt (?) or wear keeps the armature from sliding in and inrush current is 3x normal current. Take off, pull apart clean re-assemble.A P0505 may happen.
