Sounds like a bad MAF sensor. Don't wast your time cleaning it, this is a known issue on the 2000 I30/I30t/Maxima and similar years. Symptoms are no power above 3000-4000 rpm and strange shifting among other things. If you search, you will find more info on this. I have a 2000 I30t and replaced the MAF about a year ago. It was like driving a new car again. Call the guys at Pinnacle Nissan/Infinity in Scottsdale AZ. If I remember, I think I paid around $100 shipped. The dealer part has come way down in price over the last 3 years or so, most likely due to the number of units being replaced, so IMHO, replace with the OEM part. The replacement will include the air tube. It should have a green sticker on top (this identifies the latest mod status). Very easy replacement. It is recommended that you get the ECU flashed at the dealer after replacement for optimum performance.

One more thing to add. You would think that a code generated from the ECU would tell you the MAF is at fault, but it doesn't. You may or may not get an SES light. I think mine generated a code to replace the forward cat conv. I'm glad I didn't at the tune of somerewhere in the neighborhood of $750 because once I replaced the MAF, that code never came back.

instead of blowing your money on a MAF; why don't you check your ECU for codes first. that is a basic indicator of a possible bad knock sensor or something else. alot of people forget that.
