My 2000 infiniti I30t has been acting up lately. When I start the car it idles at low rpms and then wants to die out. It especially wants to die out when i rev up the engine. It is also putting out a sulfury rotten egg smell. The check engine light came on for a while but turned off a couple days later. Any insight to what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

Rotten egg smell is usually a sympton of a bad catalytic converter. Go to your local autozone or other parts store, and have them check your codes (usually they will do it for free).

A list of codes and meaning can be found here. zerothread?id=126537

I have the exact same problem with my 96, last time i checked the code was the vehicle speed sensor, i haven't checked to see if it threw any new codes lately. if you find out what it is please post your findings. mine smells more like gas then sulfor but it still sputters and almost dies ocassionally. also sometimes when i start it, it will turn over sputter down and die, then i will turn it over again, rev the engine and it will stay running but it blows out a lot of smoke. anybody have any ideas.

My '96 Infiniti was dying on me somtimes when I would start it and sometimes even while driving at slow speed. I took it to a nechanic and he said that it was the fuel pump. The only thing was that it would start again if you cranked it and run ok. I've never known a bad fuel pump to run good again after acting up so I didn't beleive that. To make a long story short, I took off the upper intake manifold and cleaned it out real good with carb cleaner and then put it back together, started it and put in some "Sea Foam" through the throttle body to clean all the valve train and it has been running good since then. I think it's called Sea Foam. They use it to decarbonize boat engines. This is just what I did.
