I live on vancouver Island in BC Canada and skylines here are scarce. I managed to find one that I liked for $13,900. Went to the bank, got my loan finalized, and the guy backed out...first bump on my long and dark road.
I kept looking on the island finding some for $20,000 which i didnt have the money for. Then along came a 1990 GTR gunmetal grey 54,xxxkm for $11,500!!! Went to vancouver and checked it out. I'm pretty knowledgable about my cars, so for this low price, I was sceptical.
The car was nice with a few little scrapes here and there and sounded good. I asked the guy why it was so cheap and he said it was because he, himself, makes trips to Japan and buys the cars privately and when he has extra room in his containers that he usually ships over used engines he, puts in a skyline. So he doesn't have to pay for shipping and doesn't have to pay some one else to find the car for him. Sounded reasonable.
The only thing wrong was, a few days earlier the a guy in his workshop broke the rear window. He said I could wait 4 weeks for a new shipment of his to come in and he would put it in for free. But I was unpatient and with all this money I was saving, I wanted one now.
The only one we could fine was $700 bucks plus $100 to put it in. He agreed to split the cost 50/50, so I bit the bullet and went for it. Window was replaced, so I go back to pick up the car with my little brother in a couple of days. We drive the car around for about an hour and the clutch blows on a hill around a corner in 3 lanes of traffic with no shoulder and im stranded. I thought i was going to get hit. Luckily, a police officer was near by and helped me out.
I phone the guy and tell him what happened. So he says he'll pay for the towing and check for the problem. I go home, which is a 2 hour ferry ride and an hour and half drive.
I get a call the next day and sure enough its the clutch. He tells me that because hes a used parts dealer that he will pay for labour and he'll put in a used clutch for free and the only ones he has have about 30 percent left. I'm not down with a used clutch, so he says I can wait 3 weeks and he'll get a shippment in with some that are 80 percent and put that in for free aswell. Again, I don't want a used clutch. So, he gives me a third option of a new one for $600 and that I would have to pay for it, but he would cover labour. I did some digging myself and found one for $400. He agrees to pay $100 of it and labour. So, that's what we did.
I wait again for 4 days and start to make the hour and half drive to the ferry with my friend and his car. Ironically on the way, his slave cylinder in his clutch blows. So I get another friend to pick us up and drive the rest of the way to the ferry. I get to my car and we drive off on the way back to the ferry agian.
Driving down the highway, I hit a red light so I stop. A Mercedes pulls up beside me gives me a rev. Naturally i want to show off my new car a bit, so we pull off the line and, boom, no oil pressure, no power, and a horrible griding sound follows. Engine is toast.
We manage to make it to the ferry and I tell him to come deal with the car agian. I missed the ferrie I wanted to take and we had to wait 3 and a half hours for the next one as they were all delayed that day. We finally get on the ferrie at 12 and I dont get home till 3:30 in the morning.
He phones me the next day and accuses me of driving the car to hard. Yeah, no I dont buy it, but never the less the enginge is blown. He then tells me he will put in a new motor for free, but I remember seeing a different skyline he had. It looked nicer, was the same color, but a year older. So I ask him if he would just give me that one instead. So that's what's happening, I get the other one.
I hope everthing goes better this time
Ok, now that I can understand what the heck you are posting...
That's what happens with buying used cars. I had my clutch on my Laurel go out two days after I bought it. It turned out that the only thing wrong was that the hard line under the car from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder wasn't tightened at the coupling joint. Easy fix.
Yours sounds a bit more involved. Just try not to get a shady deal from this guy on the other GT-R.
