Well Yesterday was a bad bad day for me. While I was driving home last night, seeing as there weren't many vehicles on the road, I thought I'd go a little Nascar on the Shirlington oval above 395. If you don't know, you can take an off ramp, stay in the left lane, and just drive circles above 395 through the ramps. Of course, its more fun to treat it like a 1500 foot skid pad and circle around between 50 and 75mph depending on the angle and circle point. here's what it looks like. Image

Anyway, I was having fun circling this thing when my check engine light came on. And my ABS light. And my A/T light. My G's transmission went into 3rd gear lock/limp mode, and my throttle response died. Since I was doing 70mph anyway, I thought I'd just coast down the ramp and go home, since I live 3 blocks off the highway. But what's this? No vacuum. Brake pedal now needs all my body weight to slow down the car. Great, losing power brakes sucks. As I'm coasting down the ramp at around 65, I hear and feel a simultaneous thunk and poof. Twice. Like I ran over a spike strip or something of the sort and all my tires start to go flat and my car dies, electrically speaking. I really didn't think this could get any worse, but as I'm seeing my exit approach and I realize I can't turn right (not nascar related) because my steering locked. Guard rail, here I come. It all happened so fast. Slam into a guard rail, Air bag blows in my face, giant metal girder slices through the car between its soft spot: the area center of the drivers headlamp and motor. As the Airbag deflates I notice the metal rail smashed through my hood, windshield and firewall, pushing the instrument cluster all the way up to 3 inches from my face. As I'm hoping and praying no one decides to rear end me, I take a jaw dropped peek at my gauges and see..

Thanks a lot, Satan.

False story aside, I had a night a bit like this (minus the accident). Driving home from a snowboarding trip, I had a brake failure in a rental. Luckily I was on a freeway/highway at the time and when the pedal went to the floor, I just skipped my exit and slowed the car down using gears and a dab of e-brake. I wound up having to call my GF at the time to get the German words for "my brakes failed" when speaking to the ADAC folks.

I started to get worried until I read that the cluster went three inches from your face and read "66666". Cool story, try a bigger disclaimer next time :squint:

Avoid it between 7am and 10pm. and 2pm to 8pm cuz there's traffic. And 11:52 to 11:58pm. Thats when I'm on it.

:bigthumb: Thats all it was for! When I noticed my odometer was approaching the mega unholy number I thought it would be fun to make up some story when it rolled into that numerical territory.

It is perfect!. its between Arlington and Alexandria, and its a highway chunk, so no cops. (unless nathan tags along) Its not like you can reach triple digit speeds anyway.
