I drove one briefly today for a friend to determine some brake noise.

I know it's only .6L difference, but my god.

Either my Q is sicker than I thought, and didn't notice, or those 3.5's are made for smiles and nothing else.

That dang car was SO MUCH FASTER to 40mph than my car, it makes me want to go get rid of it today.

I'm hoping it's my few codes etc that are holding her back, but my god - I don't think my Q ever took off like that.

I can't even imagine those 350's with turbos on them, I mean, driving my car after that made my soul cry.

Don't despair! Your Q weighs more and simply wasn't designed for that. 0-40 might be faster, but take it to the highway and the Q will win your heart again!

Sucks to the VQ anyway.

The VH is is better!

Eh...my thoughts on this matter remain the same:

--My Q feels a lot more powerful than my dad's VQ powered Maxima. He disagrees but I can't recall the last time I was able to roast the Max's tires on dry asphalt...and the Max has the drivetrain advantage for that one, shifting weight off the drive tires. I've pushed both cars hard...The Q feels faster and more "ready" to go at any speed, in any gear. I mean...when my transmission was having issues I was getting by with 3rd gear only. Like to see the VQ do that.

--The VH is also MUCH smoother than the VQ. The VQ is certainly a top-notch V6...but it doesn't come near the VH. It's harsher feeling and sounding. Not to say that it's harsh...but compared to the my silken V8 it stands out.

But my main point:--290hp != 350ft lb. Even the new 330hp VQs (up to 350hp now in the Nismo Z) are still making 270ft-lb. At 5200rpm. Doesn't compare. The VH makes more power over a wider range. Makes more torque everywhere. The VH revs to 7000 and makes power from 500rpm. Let's see a VQ stand up to Wes' claims of climbing hills in 5th gear at 500rpm. It can't. The VH can.

I like the VQ a lot...but my time with the VH has jaded me. The VQ might be fast sometimes, but I'd like to see those VQ guys suck 20hp out of their motors with an ecu tune and an exhaust. Not gonna happen.

get rid of that AT, drop 1000lbs and then tell me the VQ is nice!

Granted, the VH41 isnt as fun as the VH45, but thats nissan's fault for taking all the cool stuff the VH41 had in japan and dumbing it down for the Q

I ran my mom's 3.5 Altima. She pulled on me for a second, then held a .5-1 car lead for a couple more, but as soon as the q hit the powerband I detroyed her. I'm not really a go-fast guy and normally would laugh at a race, but it was my mom so whatever. She's almost 50 btw and drives this:

More mods on the way. I tell her to get rid of the little kid car but she loves that thing.

So anyway, she was talkin trash "Blah, blah, blah" so I told her we could hit the track for titles.

Run an automatic G35 on a 400+ mile trip, then the FGY33.

You'll see the difference, except mileage won't be much better on the V35.

Wish I could get the wife to race me in the Q 0-80. Having driven both I think the G would eat my lunch on the low end, but I hope the Q would take the lead above 60.

There's no doubt - the G is a fun car to drive around town - not so much on a long trip.

Well damn, then I need to drive a VH45 if it's really night and day between the two.

For the record, it was an auto VQ that I drove. The punch from a start would have a car length on my Q before my transmission caught up.

I think also, I really need a new transmission. Although it feel pretty solid and passes fluid test, it just feels sloppy. That an AC are the only two projects I won't do at home "under the tree."

With a 5 speed!

Man, even my stockish automatic G50 would absolutely decimate a Y33.. The Y33 is fast enough just to be considered brisk.. The G50 pulls like a train.

Wes, you've driven both, and I own both....so let's be clear:auto vs. auto (no 2800 stall) the fgy33 is a bit faster off the line than the G50. it has favorable gearing, and low end tuning.I actuall like doing 0-60 blasts in the y33 a bit more than the g50.but here's the bottom line:from 60-120 the g50 pulls and pulls. sometimes i swear my car accelerates faster in second gear than first.

back to the vq35de. i used to own one of those too. keyword is 'used to'.

FGY33 is not too slow, but the G50 will get it on from even a standing start.

The FGY33 accumulates speed so that one suddenly finds one is going faster then he thought. But one is still behind the G50.

get a grip dude, I have driven both, the 96' was slower, and my dad's 92' that was in great shape was a little faster, your 94' Q is not a 2009 M5. They are pretty close, now an M5 could decimate our Q's, your 94 is a LITTLE bit faster, and since most of them have some many gremlins running around in them.....it woudl have to be in top shape, which 99% of them are not.

I would agree with that... 2nd gear was always the best.. 1st gear just put you in position for that blast in 2nd gear.. I have to say after the 5 speed I dont really have that rush in any gear like the auto had in 2nd gear, but then again I spend less time in each gear..

Ive only driven one Y33.. and it felt slow, about the same 0-60 but on the highway it had no balls. I have some videos somewhere...

But like Ive said before, if you're happy with your car then enjoy, you're the one that has to drive it, not me!

Relax...

The VH has much more power than the VQ.

Top speed (after 65mph) like elwesso said - mine accelerates faster, and it will smoke a VQ after that speed.

I run a mob and I prefer top speed over anything.

0-40mph is faster in a police package Crown Vic (used to drive one for work) - but my car is faster all other speeds, weighs more and corners sharper. + handles better.

Wess...you usually make feasible statements but this is by far a very silly statement IMO. I don't really understand why G50 owners think their car is SOOO much fasterthan Y33's? Both are great cars but come on, the hp is a slight difference between both cars. The G50's I usually see on the road is a pothole away from falling apart.

"0-40mph is faster in a police package Crown Vic" ??????????????

4.57 seconds to 40 mph is slower than my 1990 Q but 3.2 seconds is a wash to 30 mph

The 2009 CV is actually fractionally faster than 2008 CV

2009 Ford Interceptor 4.6L 3.27 BEGINNING TIME: 8:43 a.m.WIND VELOCITY: 0 WIND DIRECTION: 0° TEMPERATURE: 60.1°

Always interesting to analyse WHY an ~ equal weight, engine displacement vehicle is so slow 16.7/86 mph in quarter as the Crown Vic.

The torque spread and delivery in each gear
