Do you drift? This is common, car gets sideways. the floater in the gas tank tips over..Sometimes it may correct it self, sometimes it won't.

dude are you stoned right now. drifting is when you take your car sideways ona turn @ fast speed. i know this isnt the best way to ecplain it but owell. and then person i got my car form was in there 20s. and i know they had mods on the car because there are holes in places where a tak would be and the bumper is not on the car right. it looks like they hit a wall with the car.

LOL, I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm.

Welcome to the 240sx community. Our gas gauges suck.

The gauge is probably fine. In all likelihood, it's the sending unit in the tank. An external gas gauge will not read any better than the gauge you have now. I know because I have swapped so many instrument clusters in and out of my dash (for various reasons) and ALWAYS, the fuel gauge is inaccurate.

Better question. Anyone ever own a car over 7 years old where the gas gauge works correctly?

Wow, all the cars I have had have had gas gauges that red quite abit off. My brother's 1997 CRV reads right, but he is one of the most sedate drivers. Ever. It has about 80,000 miles but runs like it has less than 50,000.

My old honfa accord 90 flawless gas gauge and I abused it until 225,000. Got it with 98k..Auto transmission gave out..

Well the only way to recitify it is 1-drift it knock it back on in place 2-open the gas cover, etc. and fix it. have 2 buy a new seal/gasket look around for the fsm online..tells you every step needed to properly get into tank.3-leave it alone and just watch your trip odometer and fill up at a reasonable time, your fuel light will light up when your too low.
