OK, this thread is for amusement as well as for a possible answer as to what could be going wrong. I bought this 240 about 2 months ago, not even running. Totalled, etc., a pretty well screwed car. SO i got the car running again, (for free i might add) and the car runs beautifully. It just HONESTLY, has a mind of it's own. Examples:

1. The car randomly locks and unlocks itself when keys are pulled, at any point in time, 24-7, and when i watched it, the car actually doesnt lock or unlock, but the locks do move, just not fully open or closed.2. I drive it to work 2 miles from my house. I pull the keys, walk away from the car. My friend is standing there, and all of a sudden I hear a noise. I turn around instantly to see the windshield wipers go 2 more times, then stop. No reason, never used the windshield wipers that day, was sunny out.3. Inside the dash, also at random times, like the locks, there is a ticking almost like there is something electrical turning on and off, but nothing happens.4. This is more technical, and I have this one figured out, but randomly, for no reason at all, the clutch dcides that It's gonna grind into first. thats I believe just pressure plate probblems.

This car only gives me reasons to smile and laugh, has never screwed me over. i can deal with the 'haunted KA of doom' as long as she doesn't take a nose dive into the ground.

But if anyone has any ideas as to why this car loves to put on a show for everyone, please tell me, not that I'm gonna doa nything about it, it's too much fun to ahve this thing, :D :ylsuper :pface

Grinding in first occurs because there's no syncro in first gear.

The previous owner probably died in the wreck... and he's stayed in his car to haunt the future drivers..... ;)

I got that windshield wiper thing a few times before. I am pulling my dash over x-mas break and rewiring everything.

Sounds like they got it covered, my car had a short in it, and every time i would put a fuse in where my cigarette lighter should go, it would blow out... I wouldent reccomend re-wiring unless you know what your doin, because ive seen people try to turn their wipers on, and their brights flash on and off, DOH.

I know this may sound obvious, but have you checked the main power connection points? I have witnessed very strange electrical problems(ghost in the machine!... /tard) when battery terminals/ground harnesses are lose. The clicking you mentioned is almost certainly relays. Vibrations can cause very short(time) opens in the power. Some circuitry will behave normally due to a capacitive load, others will 'spazz', or buzz like the relays seem to be doing.

Now I know you said this occurs even with the car off, but it is surely something to check. Inspect your battery terminals - are the corroded? Clean 'em well and use some electrical contact grease(autopart store should sell it, or any battery warehouse). Wrench 'em down...Try wiggling your main harnesses under the hood, esp. those which pass thru the firewall.

This post is a bit vague, but I hope it helps to pinpoint your electrical demons.

Take care,-Jamie

edit: Oh and yes it could very well be a problem beneith the dash. I'll be pulling mine over Xmas break to work on my HUD. Same deal, check for loose/shorted connections.
