My fuel gauge is out i was told when i just bought it was the floater

i have a 89 s13 ca swap, and i have some custom guages, id like to hook up a gas gauge, does it come directly from the ecu, or is it a floater thats connected to the fuel pump?

not to steel your thread.

whats the best way to hook up a gas gauge? for both of our sakes..

So you checked and the float was not the problem?

no i did not check it new to nissans used to drag and built a 67 442 olds cutless i was told and saw it not working when i bought it so i dont know how to check it plus when cold i get a tapet sound then goes aways but passed smog easy today but he di just take a header off it so i was thinking exaust leak dont know what ya guys think ?? So the gauge doesn't work. The float could be bad of course. The access cover is in the back in the floor of the trunk, like six 10mm bolts to pop it off and the pump and float comes up out of the tank.

the engine low gas lights out too found the tank hold but dont know how i should test it dont really want to open it if dont need too got a book it has a connector got any sugestions

That low level sensor for the light always goes bad. You can't get it from Nissan though. They make you buy the whole mess.

It's actually kinda cool how it works. It's actually like a little thermocouple, but works in reverse. The gas keeps the temp down, so the circuit is open. When the gas gets low, the little semiconductor heats up, closes the circuit, and the light comes on.
