Well my friend just go this new 1988 300zx for an awesome deal of $300, and it runs. The good: No crashed dash, 105xxx miles, rebuilt engine. Electronics work minus one or two switches. We're hoping this will become an awesome project car.The bad: idle issue, will just die and runs rich, and no radio(who can complain for $300?).

Any ways picture time! I was looking at the engine when I took pictures, and the hood wasn't bolted on atm, thats why its hoodless. Also no idea the the owner had a got boost? sticker as it's N/A Fuel cap release is currently broken iirc, so its currently just left open.Pictures aren't the great.

Now for Idle issue the question. The previous owner had rebuilt the engine, Don't remember why. But he says he may have mixed up some kind of tubing (I'm guessing Emission hosing). I'm taking a wild guess and saying this is the problem. It tends to die and has a rough idle. My friend has fixed one problem so I don't know what the other one could be.would be greatly appreciated!

wow, that sure is orange??? but for that price I could learn to love it, loks to be a real strait chassis

as for the idle, I'd get a fsm and start mapping the vac lines, I think the ficv and aiv are the only ones that would effect the idle, and the ficv would only effect cold start, also look for cracked or broken lines

Today we took it for a drive to see what codes the ECU would throw, code 14 and 33 came up. So we're going to replace the vehicle speed sensor(yet the speedometer works??) and Exhaust gas sensor hopefully soon and see if that helps at all.

The interior is fairly nice, seats are somewhat faded and so is the back carpet that's about it, dash is crackless and carpet is clean as well!

That car needs a confederate flag license plate on the front of it.... Nice Z31. Looks like a fun project.

I had the same issue on my 87. I gave it a tune up, wires, plugs, filter, etc, and it still did it. I cleaned out the throttle valve and it actually solved the problem. There was a little gunk buildup in there and it wasn't getting the propper air flow through it. Another indication that it needs to be cleaned is a rough and jumpy idle. Cleaning it out fixed both problems.
