My friend was driving my car, and downshifted while going about 105.

in my '92 240sx, i have an sr20det.

my friend was driving and meant to go from 3rd to 4th, but instead went 3rd to 2nd.the car revved extremely high, i would guess around 10k rpms.the motor would shake a lot at idle, had almost no acceleration, and the brakes were hard to push down or something like that. it also backfired a lot.

the car made it a few miles to a shop, and they said they'd call me on monday when they look at it.what do you think is wrong? and how much might it cost to fix?

over-revving usually trashes the rocker arms and can also deform the rods/bearings. Expect something definitely in the valve train to be messed up. If it was an idle vacuum issue, he may have also bent some valves.

that makes sense, because the high pressure hoses could also easily be squeezed. i think i'm losing pressure somewhere.

I just don't understand how people money shift trying to go from 3rd to 4th... Doesn't make sense... You're JUST pulling straight back...

Idiots are everywhere. I have a video of a guy in a honda accord who miss-shifted 3rd- 4th and wrecked his car cause of it.

Friend better be more than helping as in paying for the whole thing and paying for or giving you rides to places you need to go.

If it were my "friend" he would have gotten punched in the mouth when we got out after that eff up.

verdict is that he snapped one of my valves, and two valves, including that one, lost their keepers.rocker arms also shot off throughout the head. also, my exhaust cam got scraped.

so just a few minutes ago, i ordered rocker arm stoppers, BC stage 2 cams, new valve springs and retainers, a new valve, valve keepers, and a couple of other new parts.

and also, i don't think he's going to be paying for any of it. i'll be asking him some more though. i need money.

I'd make him pay for it one way or another

If one of my buddies trashed the head on my SR, they're either paying for it, or we're not friends anymore.
