i think i blew my piston ring. oil looks pretty dark, my radiator fluid is still full and my car didnt overheat at all (maybe because of my koyo racing rad). no signs of water leaking out of my tailpipe, but white smoke from exhaust and smells like oil to me. Plus if you look from the oil cap theres a little scratch on my cam shaftsWDRacing wrote:Check your compression first...
alright so i did the compression test like everyone said and turns out my 2nd piston is friedWDRacing wrote:Check your compression first...
alright so i was boosting at 7psi like always and shifting at 6,000 RPM every gear til the end of 3rd gear and then assoon as i stop at a stop sign, i look back and there i see lots of white smoke like CRAZY! and notice my engine was have a really rough idle.i then look at my hood and saw a crap load of white smoke comming from my right side.when i open the hood all the white smoke was gone so i couldnt tell where it was comming from.after that i drove it home and look under my car and saw oil dripping from the bottom of my radiator and it had so much pressure that it came out of my oil catch can tank which was next to my battery.480sx wrote:Dude, dont THINK you have a blown ringlands, do the basic checks first and then come back to us.
COMP CHECK TIME!
Also, it would help to know what you were doing, and how the car broke down when all this happened. Was this the first time you tried to boost, or was this a few months after you got a working setup? What boost levels, were you WoT high rpms, that kinda stuff will help us help you.
Im curious now about emance, so get us some good info so we can see whats up.
Oh yea and.. Your gona love me for this one haha, hats off to positronone for this.. The thread ---------> zerothread/299950But really theres not much to pulling the ka, you just gotta dive in and get it done.
i never check my compression when i went ka-t til nowim sure it was high over its normal range though.the guy at the dyno shop i went to said he knows my compression is good because i was putting good number on the dyno.Neejay wrote:EDIT: Nevermind. I had this thread up from yesterday and replied without refreshing the thread first.
EDIT #2: When you went KA-T, what were your compression numbers? and/or did you rebuild first?
temp. stays normalRhapsody wrote:when testing compression for blow pistions you should check temp when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Also you should check the compression normally then put a few cap fulls of oil in each cylinder then check again. The oil will help the rings get compression back. If you do have a blown ring the difference in compression numbers between non-oil check and oil check should be around 25+psi. If compression jump that much you can conclude you have a blown ring. If not other things may be wrong like a bent valve or something. As far as rebuild goes, you don't really know what you need till you break down the engine and check everything and i mean every little thing. Use the FSM under EM > Cylinder Block and follow how to dissasemble and check stuff. I actually just rebuild my engine so i could turbo it. I ended up just putting new rings in and getting an oem full gasket kit. If you do plan on rebuild your engine you will need a Gasket kit. Thats for sure.

What about if the chain jumps teeth somehow? (I think that's what just recently happened to me)480sx wrote: Also, valves dont get bent unless the engine jumps timing(which wont happen unless your chain breaks) so you can pretty much scratch that possibility off the list.
