Hey guys and gals, my name is Ricky, figured I would stop in and introduce myself. I recently purchased my first S14 and couldn't be more excited to have it, its been a dream car (I know, I know seems cheesy),but really I have always loved the styling of these cars. This car could very well be an older members car from the forum, it came from Cali.

The car is for sure a work in progress, its been sitting for 7-8 years in a garage (previous owner could not figure out what was wrong with it until about 2 weeks before I purchased it), but regardless it is a solid start I think.

First issue I have noticed with the car (other then cosmetic) is the dipstick pushes itself out of the tube periodically. Ive done some research on this forum and on the other silvia forum. From what I have read the crankcase pressure is the problem. Seems it could be an easier fix of the catch can system, the pcv or the worse of the options, bad rings. My car is SR20DET notch top, it does have an aftermarket catch can, I'm unsure if it is hooked up correctly or not, I pulled the catch can out and did notice the bottom part of the tube that runs from the top to the bottom has a hole in the L shaped part that runs back into the can, so obviously i will fix that as well. I will add some pics below. I will be doing a compression test as soon as I get the time. In the mean time could anyone take a look at these pics and see if you see any issues?

Thanks in advance for any help given, I look forward to posting up updated pics as I get more word done on the car.

Nice, definitely do a compression test first. I know somewhere on this site there is a diagram on how to properly route the catch can. Looks clean, definitely take you time and make sure everything gets done right and the car won't let you down.

The catch can is definitely hooked up wrong and you don't have a hose going to your intake (or breather filter) so no pressure can escape except through the dipstick tube. The tube that comes from the block in the back needs a hose that only goes to the tube on the back of the valve cover. Then you run a hose from the middle nipple on the valve cover to the catch can and then a hose from the catch can to the intake tube before the turbo but after your MAF sensor.

Thanks for the help guys, I could look at it and tell it didn't look correct, but me being new to these cars I didn't know the correct way to run it. I will probably order a new catch can after taking it out, the bottom L shaped thing on the side of the can is worn through. I don't have a place to hook it up to my intake so I guess I will have to just let it go to the atmosphere until I can get one welded on there.
