It finally happened, my first problem with my beloved Q.I started her up and a few minutes later the ABS, TCS, SLIP lights all came on. :(

Before I bring her in to the shop, I was hoping a few of you experts would know what could be wrong.

Quick history,

All advice appreciated,

Robert

Oh, I forgot to mention that I hear a buzzing noise coming from the upper left corner of the hood....near the ABS unit (I think)

Find the ABS/TCS fuses and pull them. The noise is coming from your ABS unit at that spot when u have the hood open u can hear it buzz.

I once had the exact same thing after I transported a bicycle in my trunk.Turned out it pushed against a control module behind the trunk divider in left center.

Hitting that spot onmce or twice would make the ABS error signal go away as well as stop the ABS pump from buzzing..I had to do this everyt 4-6 months once to keep it ok.

Should just be a loose connection hopefully.

Fred,

If I pull the fuses, I should put them back right away, right? Once I do this (in your expierience) it will reset everything?

As I have done / transported nothing to the trunk area....

Did your TCS & SLIP light come on @ the same point?

Thanks Fred.....

1) not neccessarily if your ABS/TCS is off anyway, you can drive w/o it, saving your ABS units life expectancy, it is bad for it to run continusly2) It might, if it doesnt, try to run w/o them.3)Yes.

Fred,

I went to remove the ABS fuse and I'm having a hard time.....I know where both the fuse boxes are....but I can't seem to find anyone labled brakes or ABS. I did find one that says SLIP, but when I pulled it the ABS unit did not stop buzzing.

A loose connection could be anywhere.

I think i will let the real online mechanics take it from here, when they find this thread.

I am sure they can point u to some good spots where to check connectivity (if that indeed is the problem which we cant be sure of yet).

Fred,

Thanks for your assistance. Without it I would have most likely ruined my ABS system....(Or whatever that buzzing sound was)because I would have never thought to pull the fuse.

You won't believe it but when I pulled the fuse it popped out of my hand and got stuck at the bottom of the engine. I think on the cover....so I spent the last 1/2 hour here at work taping letter openers together so I could reach in and get the fuse. Just thought a few of the DIY's on here would appreciate that. If it can happen, it happens to me when I do any work on a car.

I do have a few other questions:

1.) Will I cause any harm to drive the car with ABS fuse removed?

2.) What did the TCS light and SLIP light come on at the same time? I'm concerned there is a problem with the TCS system??

3.) If anyone can suggest places for me to check connections to the above systems would be greatly appreciated! Or any other suggestions to the symptoms I've reported.

Thanks,Robert

1) Well, I can't think of any reason why it should be a problem, the car should drive just like with no ABS.I would drive it home if it was my own is all I can say , <but> keep in mind I am not one of the online mechanics here and I am usually wrong on averege once per year here.So we are about due..;)(And I usually try to stay away from questions that are out of my league)Anyway so the above is just a caveat, if it was me I would drive oit home w/ the fuse out to save your system from constant running

2) they are on the same circuit and use much of the same sensors.

3) I will leave that up tp Daedalus, Q45tech, Chally all of which are Q experts.

I haven't had this problem yet, but I seem to recall reading something similar, in which Prof Mike said that there's actually a relay that gets stuck occassionally.

Ah...just did a search.http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....=2984http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....11688

Daedalus,

Thanks for the link....I should have done a search. I'm learing though.....

It looks to me like I need to give Joe # Scottsdale a call and order those ABS relays.

Can anyone give me directions on how to change them out? From reading Joe's old post it sounds like it's very simple (plug in & out) however, I'm not sure where there located??

Thanks for all the help,

Robert

I'm sure it is plug-n-go. Without knowing off-hand, my guess is that they're either in the back of the engine bay, near the blue starter relay, or they're in the relay/link box, above the front passenger-side wheel.
