I sold my Porsche and everyday driver, bought a condo,

and bought a perfect '03 Infiniti QX4 with 37K miles.Going to get a Porsche Cayman in spring.

I'm ready for QX4 mods, I don't much in the aftermarket world available for the QX4, yet way more is available for the Pathfinder. Any suggestions? The truck is fairly quick, for a truck. It can break the tires loose on hard accleration, which is impressive. Id like to put a cold air intake and exhaust to start. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I will take some pictures and post soon

Welcome to NICO!

Glad you found us, looking forward to those pics.

I was always under the impression the QX4 was discontined in '02. Am I mistaken?

I have heard rumors of a Borla system for the Pathfinder that SHOULD fit the QX, but I'm not an SUV expert.

I'd skip the CAI, several reasons why, but suffice it to say there's really no bang for your buck there. The risks outweigh the gains.

p.s. I've personally been a passenger in an FX45 putting the SMACKDOWN on a Cayman through some twisties - Might want to look into it as well, as it's cheaper and IMO better-constructed.

97-03 Then it was very mistakenly no longer built.http://motortrend.com/buyersgu...owned/

Then Infiniti started smokin crack and built these ugly *** 2004 + year trucks.

You say don't do a cai, yet don't have any knowledge about the vehicle and/or the SUV line.

The Cayman doesnt come out till Jan... So get your facts straight. Maybe your thinking Cayenne- Porsche's SUV- The Cayman is a Boxster with a hardtop. Any Cayenne, other than the V6 Cayenne would smoke your buddies truck. ALL the Cayenne's look WAY better than the newer Infiniti's too

I figured I'd find some knowledge from this site disappointed indeed

Wow Bri Your off to a great start here. I however do know about nissan and infiniti SUV's. I will tell you this The difference between a QX4 and a Pathfinder is not enough to mention so in all reality the QX4 was essentially produced untill 2004 as nissan pretty much incorperated all the infiniti differences into it for its last r50 model year. Other then bells and whistles and slight bumper and trim differences the vehicles were exactly the same.

Additionally infiniti started building the FX in 03.

The disadvantages of having a CAI are the risks you pose to the airflow meter. If you use an oil based filter it can coat the hot wire and damge it either giving you less hp or causeing drivability problems. The HP gians from a safe filter system is minimal maybe 2 to 5 hp at best.

All pathy engine mods for the same year QX4 will be a direct bolt in since they are the same vehicle.

So the K&N drop in filter I have is a bad thing? I'd imagine it's the same principle as what you're saying with a CAI... I got it to improve mileage back before the prices even got as high as they are now... 19 mpg sux... still don't think it did much good mileage wise, but if it's bad for the MAF I guess I need to find a paper one.

Nissan use to have the factory filter oiled slightly. It was the one that was red in color. They did this up untill about 2000 or 2001 then they updated the filter to not have oil in it due to how sensetive the airflow meters have become [ Cheaper made airflow meters]. The new filters are yellowish in color and contain NO oil. Oiled airfilters even before then were a problem to prior more quality airflow meters but then it was more as a result of over oiled airflow meters. Like the K&N ,when you service it you have to use the cleaner to remove the old oil and dirt. Then you have to reoil it. It specifically states on there to make only ONE pass per pleate. Stick to that, dont look at it and think oh thats not enough. Trust me its plenty Also make sure you wipe any excess oil you get on the rubber outter rim of the filter off. And only oil the fresh air side of the filter NOT the meter side of it. Though this will offer some protection it is still more risky then running non oiled.

As always Nistech, thanks for the tip. I have had a K&N CAI for well over a year with no problems (that I know of), probably because it is very lightly oiled. Not to say that I won't have a fouled MAF someday, but so far so good.

To the newest and most friendly contributor to this forum, there are a few mods to the Path/QX4 mentioned in past posts in this forum, just do a search for "mods," "exhaust," "CAI," etc. However, there aren't many. There are several CAI to choose from: At least K&N makes one still. Last I checked (a while ago, but extensively), no company made a pre-fab cat-back exhaust system, so a custom muffler shop is the only way to go there. As far as chips and such go, not sure you'd want to do that to a "perfect" QX4, but it's your warranty. There are a few lift kits available if you are interested. You'll find a heck of a lot more mods for almost any other SUV or truck.

Point taken on the Cayman vs. Cayenne. I know the difference, but wouldn't buy either.

2002 Pathfinder LE 4x4 and I love it. No knock on Porsche, they make some mean, mean cars, just not my style. To each his own, or else we'd all be driving Yugos. Anyway, it's a Nissan/Infiniti forum, and a helpful one at that, so enjoy.

Also, re the cat-back exhaust, HKS made a very nice one a few years back. It was stainless and ran about $600. If you can find one used?
