Hey guys, sorry if this seems like a newbie question but it is. I just bought my first Nissan, a 93' 240sx with 122,000 miles on original motor. No rust, clean title just needs a little body work do to a botched body kit job. I bought it for $1,000 off of a friend, recently had clutch, waterpump, radiator, thermastat all replaced. Only "performance mod" (if you call an exhaust that) is the 3" Apexi Exhaust system. I'm not new to cars in anyway just this one. It has a bit of a rough idle, after driving it a short distance and coming to a stop, say a stoplight, it idles very rough and low. Almost like it's cammed. I'm guessing it's an injector problem, I don't have much experiance with MAF sensor so it maybe that. Is there any common problems with this year and injectors? I was going to try to replace spark plugs first since it'll be cheaper. Also, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any maintence I might want to do to it, besides the basics. I wasen't sure if theres something that wears out sooner then it should or anything. It needs brakes and rotors already, an oil change and just some TLC. Any assitance or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanksMatt

A mass air flow would cause the engine to bog and at full throttle it wouldn't let the rpms exceed 2500/3000 rpms. Also everytime you step on it you get a big puff of black smoke. If an injector is gone it would cause the engine to misfiring not only at idle but when your are driving as well. When you take off you would feel the engine shutter more because it is under load.If the problem only happens comming to a stop at idle. You are probably having a problem with a Idle air control valve.

one way would be to replace it, but untill you know for sure i would't.I have had luck removing them and using throttle body cleaner. It the dirt that makes it stick. when you put them back may sure you adjust them so you get 750 +-50 rpm with a load on, like the a\c.

Hope that helps. good luck!

I too am interested in how to clean/adjust this. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff. So pics would be helpful. Sounds like exactly the same problem I'm having, because I have new plugs, wires, cleaned maf, cleaned TB, and new 02 sensor.. so this IACV seems to be the only thing left to consider.

I need to clean my IACV too. It's on the intake side, near the firewall. You can clean it with carb cleaner, and I believe there's a screw to adjust the idle. Do a search on here for Idle Air Control Valve or IACV...you'll find lots of stuff. It tends to get gummed up after a while.
