Hey guys, I know this is usually a strict nissan 240 forum, but I had to tell you quickly about my first uncontrolled street race ( I do not promote street racing, though) :)

OK, I was on my way out to get some hot wingz with my girlfriend last night. I was in my POS Pontiac grand Am, 5 SPD. We ame up to this light that had turned red at the front of the line. This OLD man came up next to me in his brand new Mitsubishi Eclipse, all shiny silver and all.

Well, I looked over, and saw that it was some old man, and didn't think anything of it. Even when he revved up and inched forward, i thought he was just impatient. SO I ignored it.

Then, My girl says to me "Race this guy, i think he wants to race"

I was like, "yea right, He's old" I pull out like normal. The all of a sudden is ee him lurch forward. I didn't even downshift until I saw his front end dip inbetween gears while shifting. Then I was like "hell no, not happening old man" SO i downshifted to 2nd.

Now, I know my car was slower overall, But this guy had a quick headstart on me. I didn't start catching up until end of third gear. I over revved and tached out, ( My bad, the damn car has no TACH!) I shift up, were at about 85, and he slows up, only 1 1/2 car lengths ahead.

I lost, yes, but I didnt know what was happening. My car was slower, BUT BARELY. Wish i had the Nisaan right then, he would have been gone.

So theres the story of my first uncontrolled street race. ( i do not promote street racing people :) )

It would be a close match with your 240, if he had the V6 200HP model.

Its a toss up on who would win, probably depends on the driver.

if he had the v6 and a 5 spd, you would lose. 4cly and 5 spd would be a good race.

if i was in a new v6 eclipse 5 spd, your grand am nor any stock 240 woulda caught me after getting the jump on you like that.

maybe he had the automatic four banger...then this would make sense...

That automatic 4 cyl. is dog slow...I repeatedly raped one in my Blazer back in the Blazer days. Those things are pathetically heavy for their amount of power.

i was going to work the other day and i stopped at a light at a relatively buisy intersection. this old guy who looked to be quite a bastard pulled up next to me and revved. it looked bone stock except for a fairly expensive looking exhaust. i laughed, waved and revved back. he was old so i didnt think he would do anything and to top it off i do this fairly often and we usually just go our separate ways after having a laugh at the intersection. not this guy though. he kept revving and i was like, ok youll just sorta half race me because this street doesnt have but 400 feet of clear road. the lights for the turn lane changed to red, and all of a sudden he revved up the crx and held it at im guessing 3500rpm. i again laughed, but not for long. the light changed green and with a reaction time that would make john force proud, he dumped the clutch and proceeded to rape the honda through the gears and down the road. i didnt launch, hell i didnt even know we were racing. i floored it and had almost caught him at the end of 2nd when he braked and turned off onto a side road. i had that guy. in his defense, the crx didnt buzz, it sounded like it was dohc. was fairly quick, but it may have just been the driver, he seemed to know what he was doing. unlike me. maybe next time, haha. i know it was for the better, since racing on the street is a bad idea-unless its properly set up on a deserted road, as it is every weekend here (these guys do a really good job of making sure no one gets hurt).

Its funny, I dont get that many people wanting to race. Just this one NICO mod in his Caddys. :D

Not sure if people see a Subaru and dont think its worth racing against. I guess I lack the body kit and neon lights.

Naw, the Eclipse was definitely a 5spd. no doubt about that. Can't mistake the front end dropping like that inbetween gears....the old man sucked at shifting.

My car was probabaly funnier to watch with the 'mostly blown' shocks it has :D

Frikin old man, geez, you ever notic THERE the ones driving the CARS that YOU want? Corvette, Porsche, BMW, etc.

the 4 cyl. 5spd 3rd gens (holy abreviations batman!) can be beaten by the 240. I know, I've raced several at the strip here, and without too much effort. The gearing in those things must be terrible, plus they only have 147hp which makes them less powerful then a 240 and they weight about 200lbs more..

a v6 5spd, like mentioned above, won't be beaten by a stock 240, but the numbers aren't as far off as you'd think. My friend has a 2001 gt and it ran a 9.455 in the 1/8th, where as my 240 runs in the 10's, so it is theoretically possible to beat one of the the driver is really bad :) of course once the race gets to around 70mph you might as well hang it up, the eclipse will eat you alive on top end.
