I know this is a tiny bit off subject, but it is related to lesser name Coilovers, I know the Isis coilovers are in the same price range as godspeed and the MDU But are they still the same quality as the cheaper coilovers are they decent for day to day driving since Isis does make some pretty decent stuff?

Where the hell are you getting a $1k price tag for Megans?? Megan Coilovers are the cheapest I'd go on coilovers. You just cut a huge corner, and one day soon you'll realize why that isn't a smart idea. As a broke highschool student(at the time) who almost made the same mistake, I save up another 2 paychecks and bought a decent set for $1200. There's really no excuse to being that cheap. Like Badbob said, You've had no other experience with other brands of coilvoers, and you haven't had them on long enough to give a true review on them. Come back in a year and tell us what you ended up replacing them with after they crapped out on you

Do you have firsthand experience with these coilovers? How do you know they're so horrible?

What has led you to believe these will likely break within a year? I don't mean hearsay, I mean an account from someone firsthand. Some form of evidence you can provide.

EDIT: Please take me seriously, this discussion may influence my future decision in what coils I eventually go with.

You should know already, as Jim said, these coilovers and the Godspeed coilovers are from the same factory (MDU) and as you know, Godspeed coilovers are terrible.
There are dyno sheets from coilovers that are above the price range of these coilovers (Ksports) that showed the horrible quality of the shocks.

Shocks are carefully designed things.
You can barely buy decent set of shocks for a stock car for $500, how low does the quality have to go to have an adjustable coilover set that's priced at $500?
A friend of mine bought a used set of Godspeed coilovers, the ride quality is horrible and the "clicks" on some of the shocks didn't work, the knobs just spun freely.

In the case of coilovers, you get what you pay for.
Jim should just look at this set as a temporary setup to replace your previously blown shocks.
All the coilovers functions he listed are the same for all coilovers on the market, except the higher end ones do it better.

and you could had saved up another paycheck and borught a haltec ecu. point is i don't see spending a g or close to it on coilovers that depending on the condition will last a year or 2, if i can spend half of that for the same life.

if these don't work out then ill replace them. point is there is other things id rather spend on modifications first(hence no paint job yet).

Where did all this brainwashing come from?? if you don't have namebrand coils your not cool?? really??

Same s*** with wheels mention anything about rota or less expenisve, ie not 800 per wheel, and people start s*** all over it. I would love to see half the people in this post who are talking about crap coils are rolling on. UMMM blown stockers??? :yesnod

Dont sweat the tards bro you didnt follow the sheep and made your own choice. Granted i would have gotten the FA 500's ( should be getting soon) but hey its your car and your money so go for it.

Keep us upated on how they hold up.

Its not that you're not "cool". We're just trying to help you out here. Its been proven over and over and over and over again that cheap coils are never worth it. Maybe for the time being, but in the long run its just not a good plan. Razi made a really good point. My KYB AGX shocks (no springs or hats included) cost around $580 for a set. For a set of coilovers to be cheaper than that, you really should start wondering what is in there. You probably would have been better off with some kyb's and coilover sleeves.

The thing with namebrand companies is that they spend the time and spend the money developing a technology that will work well. Sure you can get away with off-brand exhausts some of the time, off brand intakes can work very well sometimes, a pipe is a pipe. Coilovers are different though, one shock can be COMPLETELY different from another shock, and this will affect the ride of the car, the length of the life, etc.

When these blow (within a year) you're going to want to buy another set of legit coils after learning what cheap coils are, and then end up spending more money in the end. Live and learn man, thats all you can do. Hopefully these fit your purpose for the time being. You can't have the car off the road for too long!

Here's a post from one of our own moderators with some "first-hand experience" that Mercury_hg doesn't think exists:

You do realize there are only a few suspension manufacturers out there, right? They make suspension for many, many different companies. There's a pretty good chance these were probably made and re-branded under several different names. It's even possible these were made right next to your precious "JDM" coilovers. Yes, even some Japanese companies have outsourced to China to save costs. Also, just because it's made in China doesn't always mean it's s***. Yes, there's a lot of s*** that comes out of China, but are you throwing away your LCD tv because it was made in China?

No one is talking about where its made, we're talking about how its engineered.

Your MDU coils are ISIS, Godspeed, etc.

You know, no matter how much you guys preach or post up threads about these things, people are still going to buy what they're going to buy. I have my fair share of jdm parts, but I have my fair share of cheaper brands too. Some works for me and some didn't. Everyone's just going to have to learn for themselves.

It doesn't work, that's the problem.
And the difference isn't the sticker on the coilovers.

Look at this subject with your brain, not your biased "I hate JDM parts" brain.
Have you ever seen the inside of a shock? It's not a simple piece, research goes into them.

And to those that say "Oh that's the only time I've seen ISIS coilovers come apart so the rest should be okay."
That should not happen ever.
The quality control is non-existant, the shocks don't work, no research is put into these.

I see a trend of people building a car that is essentially a collection of cheapest parts available on eBay.

Yes, many companies get their coilovers made at the same factories.
Yours happen to come from the same company that makes Godspeed coilovers and are responsible for this fiasco (Didn't even last a year):
Godspeed:

And ISIS you've already seen.

God, you just don't listen do you? Quite with the "everyone on this forum just wants to be cool" bull s***. We are simply here to help you. Krash fu**ing posted pictures to show you proof and you are still sitting there being a jacka**. I didn't spend 1200 on coilovers so that I would feel accepted. I honestly don't give a flying fu** what people think about me online or in real life. I bought it for the quality and peace of mind. I didn't buy a haltech ecu because I had a stock a** KA at the time. My focus at the time was Suspension. The point, the only point, is that you get what you pay for. This goes for pretty much everything in life. You are a cheap a** on something, you will get cheap a** results. If you don't want to believe us, fine. There is nothing we can do about that. But stop parading around because you "didn't follow the crowd". That is not what you did. Good luck with you shi**y coils. Like I said before, you have no business writing a review until you've actually used them for a period of time

^^^yes sir.. parading around?? who is doing that?? i just simply started a build thread about some cheapo coils that i got. you sir are the one who appears to be butthurt. i can give an account now why(without your permission) because it's been over 5k miles and a track event, and a 132mph run. if they were super-s*** then they would had broken down by now.

I value crash and all the other input about what i SHOULD HAD BROUGHT. But i already have these so it can't be changed. i would value other peoples accounts and threads about lesser priced coilvers more than hoffman's crying.

This thread is more on how far will they go,before they or will they even conk out. I plan on getting megans for my sc at some point next year when iam rolling around in it. So it's a working process..

Mr crash thank you and if you can supply more links to previous testimony than thank you.

As Far as Cheap Goes i think its been mentioned but ive used Megan Racing Sets(probably the cheapest decent set around) they come as low as like 8-900. Below that they start getting really cheaply made. The reason people buy expensive stuff is plain and simple it lasts longer i would rather pay 900 bucks once for a few years then pay 5 or 6 hundred once a year. but thats just me.

Wasn't talking about these coils speaking more generally about the attitude in the 240 community. Im guessing the rest of you post was towards the OP.

OK calm down everybody. The point is that when dealing with these parts, "you get what you pay for" matters and stands true.

So when I first starting buying aftermarket parts, I bought KSport coils for my 240. They were $850 shipped. But, Im mad at myself because I didnt do any research about the product I was buying. I wish I had saved an extra paycheck for atleast Megans. The ride is bouncy as hell even over the smallest bumps, the spindles unwind all the time no matter how tight I put them, sometimes they make a clunk noise, there were no instuctions on how to preset the springs because they weren't even set, and they started to rust after a few months. Ksports have pillowballl mounts, 32 way adjustable, and can be lowered like any coilover, but it doesnt make it a better part. Teflon and all that crap is probly a standard for all coils like when I read oil bottles "Lubricates engine, helps cool, and removes gunk".. dont all oils do that?

I rode in my old bosses SR'd S13 and he had good electronically controled Tiens worth like $2000. Now, Im not saying you need to spend that but it was something I could compare mine to. The ride was soooo great. Its was hard as they should be but not bouncy at all and really grabbed the road. He usually took the car to VIR to race and he they were worth the money.

All coils look the same but they are not. They are build differently with different metals and different manufacturer procedures. Higher quality probly use steel or other hard durable metals rather than cheaper aluminum. Internally, cheaper ones probly have cheaper rubber gaskets and are not precision made.

The point is that they will break and possibly cause a severe accident. Like I said at the start, cheapos are always a risk of hit or miss. Why buy 3 sets of coils in 5 years when you can buy a good pair ONCE for a few hundred dollars more, with a better ride and a longer warranty. I garantee if you could ride in a car with $1000 street Megans or Stances, it would be night and day. It reminds me of the wiper blade thread. Why buy cheap walmart blades 4 times a year when you can buy good ones ONCE for $10 more, that last a year (Sil-blades last a few years)

And Razi btw, they are $300 for the coils themselves and $220 for shipping.

I'm not butt hurt, it is just annoying That when we give you advice, you make the assumption that we think the only reason that we don't go with cheaper coils is because we just want to be cool. That's not it at all, and we have explained this a few times in this thread alone, yet it doesn't seem to get through your head that we don't really care if people think we're cool for spending more money on coilovers.

CX racing has a good reputation as a company, but I don't know if I'd buy their coils just yet. It's a complicated part to design and produce, so it takes more capital to produce it. For example, you saw what happened with those ISIS coils, but I have an ISIS short shifter and its freaking amazing. People use their exhausts all the time, and they line up and last for a good while. Coils are just a whole different monster, and the companies that put in the money to develop them have to charge a high amount to make profit. Its worth the price though.

This reminds me of Rob Nikens Godspeed coilover review.... and then his updates 8 months later... Best of luck.
