hey guys I just did my first real drifts tonight. me and 3 other friends (2 had cars na 91 300zx and a lame slow civic.)were out in a park parking lot messin around. then me and 2 of them 300zx and friend left and went behind a blockbuster in a huge parking lot. They say I shift slow so the "carless" guy rode with me and I went threw my gears(I also found out I can chirp 3rd:))then i was going around one of those little islands and they guy said, "drift, drift man" so I hit the e-brake and the rear flew out and I hit the gas and countersteered to hold it for a sec.my first reaction was "OMG how the f**k did I do that?" it wasn't as hard to control as I thought it would be.I guess thats cause of the open differential and low hp. but it was great. i'm gonna try to get some on tape soon.and I will post it here if I figure out how.

you should learn to feint instead of e-brake...it's cleaner...use weight transfer...much easier to control

E-braking makes things get ugly real fast. Be careful!

yeah if you also start out on wet pavement you cant really get a feel for the car without too much speed. when it rains im like the dukes of hazzard. i just dont have money to burn up in tires, but its like crack, you just cant stop.

yeah its all fun and games until a tire gets ripped off by a curb. feint drift will require more speed on a dry surface, but i think its more controlled as opposed to the Ebrake method.

you should do it on wet surface in open spaces. you dont even need to ebrake or feint. just dump the clutch, that will get you sideways quick, then you can drift all around the lot without the noise, smoke, wear on your tires. and its you can drift all day at low speed so its safer.

I never knew how to use the ebrake to go sideways. I just started with wet pavement and the accellerator. O yeah, the swedish flick is bada s s for thight corners.

it seems to me that not many people like the e-brake.It wasn't hard at all.its the easiest way to to lose traction.so why don't you guys like the e-brake?

It's a pretty delicate way to get sideways, atleast at speed, which is what most of us are used to "drifting" at. Yank too hard and you're just fvcked, there's no way around it really...especially in the rain. Keep it at low speeds to start off and practice countersteering in the rain with the simple power over technique. It's kinda lame but it's good experience.

congrats on your first drifttry drifting on a gravel road or field. Its not as bad for your tires and its easier to drift. just be careful its not as easy to stop on gravel so make sure that there isn't anything to hit or runover. and instead of e-brake try staying in first gear, slowing down to around 10 or so, then slam down on the gas and yank the wheel. I've been able to drift perpendicular to the road using that method :)

i used to feint in my FWD volvo lol...just steer one way, then steer the other...the bald tires would do the rest...it was more of duke of hazard then drifting but still...i'd get sideways ;)

but yeah...ebraking is dangerous..just find a fun parking lot w/ a small median to use as your barrier and practice...

first off, the gravel WILL mess your tires up. it may not be full contact with a surface, but gravel is pretty harsh. and it tears up the underside of your car too, as well as the reaf valence panels. and staying in 1st is pretty bad for the engine seeing as how the final drive is a 4:10 and first gear is almost a 4:1. in english, this means first gears goes by quick and the engine revs up fast and hard. and i dont even think thats really drifting, more just breaking the traction lose and sliding over, not sliding in a turn. i did this a lot and never considered it a drift. the easiest way is to make a turn, "clutch", downshift, rev "let out clutch". however, i dont drift although i guess i should because i own a 240....

How to REALLY drift....1. Get some old clothes, and an army coat2. Grab some random odd possesions to semi-link you to your past3. Leave and roam from town to town on train and foot.

THATS drifting...:D

indeed Seth, it's best to carry a large knife with you and not have too many 'Nam flashbacks though, otherwise you might go ape**** crazy in the police station after the sherriff picks you up for walking back into town cuz you wanted some food...

Spoke with Black240 (Anand) last night and he promised to show me how to drift when we go to Vegas for the 240SX convention. I can't wait! Check out the new drifting forum here on NICO.
