i turbo'd my ka with 120,000 on the clock do a compression check and if the numbers are 150+ then you'll be set for a low boost setup which would be reliable as any sr20 if you do your homework. If I were you I'd hold out on any n/a bolt ons like the DC headers and start saving up for the sr20 take off stuff like t-25's, FMIC kit, etc etc. Even with the stock sr20 parts, you'll make just as much power with a little more torque. Trust me, it will be cheaper to go ka-t especially with your goals. I just recently blew my 4th ring lands due to detonation(not the ka's fault) and guess what i'm doing? Doing and OEM rebuild with all new rings, gaskets and bearings and rebuilding my head...in the end i'll have a fresh, reliable ka-t with 300hp and not leaking a drop of oil for about 1400 bucks.
I should admit that I was really thinking about going sr20 after my ka-t was getting worn out at 140,000+ miles but a STOCK 170 whp s14 sr20det swap was gonna run me at least 3-3500 bucks. and if anything happened where i was forced to convert my car back to stock for smog or whatever..taking a turbo kit off is much easier than doing an engine full engine and wiring harness swap.
