I got a rebuilt engine for my 240 out of necessity (previous owner had the infamous timing chain problem, allowed it to wear hole in front cover, bad stuff), and it cost ~$1,800 for the engine, and another $1,000 for the install . . . now I'm looking at a $900 repair next week due to problems with the timing chain again. :-( Don't buy a Recon engine . . . I've heard decent things about ATK, and an engine runs you about the same there, and they have a pretty decent warranty, IIRC . . . atk-engines.com, I think it was. Or just do a search on Google . . . HTH.

Yeah, I often question whether it was/is worth fixing or not . . . it's a nice S13, very clean on the outside, no rust (knock on wood), most everything else was/is in pretty good shape, and it took me long enough to find what I had, I didn't want to have to start all over, taking a loss on the one I had bought.

Basically, I wish I hadn't bought the one I did, simply because of the engine problem . . . given that I did, I don't think I could have ended up better off. I don't have connections or anything, but if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on AIM . . . SeanMP393.

Why do you need to replace the motor?

Just make sure you get the motor looked at by a reputable mechanic before you buy it if you aren't compitent enough to assess it. The last thing you want is to be forced to swap motors when this one craps out on you in a month. The Ka24e is, contrary to popular belief, a reliable engine. Maybe not the fastest on the block, but good. Drive it around and get used to it. I loved mine when I got it. Drove it accross the country before I got the urge to upgrade it. Ended up swapping to an SR because I wanted a Dual Overhead setup and no one around me (at the time) had one.

Just make sure you aren't buying a piece of scrap metal on wheels.

Good luck and welcome to the club. :ylsuper

The KA24E engine is a fairly reliable one, with a great, ungodly durable bottom end, and nice hydraulic lifters up top (no valve adjustments). If there's a fault in the engine, it lays with the timing chain, which has been a major problem for me now, twice, with 2 different blocks. Not fun, but if you find one that's in decent shape, with no weird "rattling" noises in the engine, you should be fine for many, many miles . . . I'm usually on AIM later at night, though I'm still in high school, so most of the time, I'm in bed by 1-1:30 or so, and get up a nice 5-6 hours later . . . hehe. I'll see if you're on tonight if you want to talk more about it . . .
