I got to drive a 240sx for the first time yesterday! I was expecting it to be kinda like my T/A, but it's night and day, guys!!! This car ruled! It had everything I love about the Trans Am, but NONE of its downfalls... rear drive, not-slow, but an unbelievably smooth ride and more leg room than even I (6'2") need! I had a blast...

Oh, and it was a red 93 se 5-speed at a dealership for $3500; too much for me since I wanna do an sr swap (although the torque on the ka was very satisfying... only 20hp less than the TA and 700lbs lighter!) and the interior was falling apart and there was a dent on the rear quarter right behind the bottom of the door... However, it was still a great test drive; I wanted to see what these cars are like and I'm sold on the 240sx!!!:D

Great to hear! Keep shopping around until you find a nice one, don't settle for anything less.

Yeah, you could probably find a really nice one for about 2-3 grand. There are alot of them out there, don't settle if you don't think it's a good deal.

Yeah, I'm so impressed with the motor that I may just go n/a and just start hopping up the Ka instead of the sr swap now... I mean, one guy on here (can't remember who) has like 170rwhp (200fwhp?) and that's pretty impressive; a lot of fun to drive, I gather.

Since the car I could get for $2-3k will probably have something like 130-140k on it (and these cars can easily go to 180k+), I could use it for a couple of years before I need to even think about the motor's reliability... then it's either sr swap or rebuild and turbo the ka! Wow, what a concept: 2.4L torque and turbo high end hp... that'd rule!

I didn't really test the handling very well, but it seemed like a really easy to handle lightweight car. I could really get used to the comfortable (not bone jarring harsh) ride quality... and the stick! Soooo much fun! Definitely gonna look for a good S13!

Thanks, 95silviase, but that's a little bit of a drive for me (ATL, GA) and I'm not too fond of the 95-6 look (looks a little bland, to me, no offense), but I do like the 97-8 s14s. But then, I don't see the logic in spending like $13k on basically the same car... The S13 looks like the best choice for me, but yeah, that's a good deal, man!

Yeah, L-T-A-K-C, that car is pretty sweet, but I could never buy a car off of e-bay... I have to see the car in person, drive it, etc. Not that there seems to be anything wrong with this car; it seems perfect, but yeah, too expensive (worth it, though) for me.

I better buy one quick (within the next month) b/c the price is gonna go up on this, the second best Nissan, when the new Fast and the Furious movie comes out (see Rice GTR thread), lol! Most of the cars I've called are sold, so these things are going fast...

:( Wish me luck, guys!Later,Chris

Dude you gotta be dedicated, Daunttless and I did 10 hours strait last weekend. No distance is too far for a good deal on a 240sx. ; )

Well I went to go test drive a 98 SE but since I am 17 they wouldn't let me but my salesman took me for a spin. LOL then my dad came with me the next day and he drove it for a little while. We are getting it around the 26th of September! Oooo I am sooo excited!

Lost_To_A_K-Car, thanks a lot for the offer, but like I said, it's a little too much $$$ for me (I'm in college; funds are very limited!), but thanks anyway, I do appreciate it...

Oh, and I am dedicated enough to make the drive IF I find a good deal on the car I want. I drove a 100 miles just to test drive the car I'm driving now... Anyway, I haven't exhausted the search for a 240sx in my own area yet, so it's too soon to start searching the rest of the country, lol!

I'll find a good one. Thanks for the advice, everyone, and wish me luck!

We drove 600, it wasn't real fun. : ) Especially when ChickenBoo kept swerving off the highway at 3am. : )

Oh, yeah, 600 miles is a lot (I wasn't implying that I could compete with only 100 miles by any means, lol), but third gen f-bodies (Trans Am/Camaro) are pretty common cars like everywhere, so that was a lot of mileage for such a normal car... I might end up having to make a road trip to find this car, actually, they seem to be all sold out around here!

Long drives at night are no fun, Daunttless, I know. Driving home in the dark and the rain from a concert last night, I almost killed myself in the Trans Am! It's all bashed up, so the headlights don't shine straight ahead, lol! I need a 240sx...

Chris, look on autotrader, there was a black 1990 240sx on there the other day, he only wanted $800, the only problems were: needs a radiator and a new headgasket. Perfect for an SR swap.

Dude, I saw that one; it looks like a prospect.... I'll have to call the guy, but I'm a little scared of ones like this because I can't test drive it, you know? I don't know if the bearings on the wheels are okay or not etc. etc... I'm just deathly afraid of buying another version of my Trans Am which needs practically everything, a total restoration, which is precisely why I'm selling it. I'd rather buy a high mileage 240sx that works and I know that when I do the engine swap, that's all I'll have to do. An engine swap isn't hard (done it before) but when I have to practically build the car from scratch...

Thanks, though, I'm definitely gonna have to check that one out. $800 is cheap! However, after driving that red 5-speed, I'm very impressed with the KA24DE motor... maybe I'll rebuild it with 8.0:1 pistons and turbo that! Man, I'm undecided... that's why it's better for me to buy a working high mileage car that I can drive while I consider my options, lol!

Thanks a lot, everyone!Later,Chris

Just curious, why 8.0:1 pistons?

From my understanding of motors in general, if you want big power n/a, you go for as high compression as possible (11.5:1 or 13:1 for racing fuel), but if you want boosted power, you run low compression (even 7:1) for a blower (supercharger) or turbo... am I wrong? Low compression allows for big boost, which is why you can't run more than 7psi on the stock 9:1-ish compression KA motor...
